I'm not entirely sure what you mean by your leg "slants to the left".

start out by vaulting and landing on the object first, and try to pass your hands further each time but still going through the arms then over time just speed it up and that should help keep you straight
There is no reason to have a plan B, cause all it does is distract from plan A

like, my leg kinda goes outside of my arms like a two handed vault and not straight through

This.

Watch Urban Current's kong vault tutorial vid, it's fantastic. You're trying to re-write years of muscle memory that tells you to throw your legs out that way when you jump over something. It's going to take some time, but with a little determination you can do it  ;)

I think you can try practicing on your couch, thats what I'm doing now. Not sure if its really effective, but I guess it helps me get the movement right before I try it. Oh yeah, I tried to do a kong today over a bench near my apartment today before my main workout and I almost faceplanted but luckily I got one foot on the floor and got up before anything happened. I guess I have to practice more on the couch then.

I had the exact same problem.  Here's how I overcame it.

First off, I tried to do it over a rail at about stomach heighth, so if you fall, you probably won't hurt yourself.  I tried that for a while and got mastery of it.  I then started on small ledges, and did the same thing.

Only about a week ago I went to the park and found three benches in a row and tried vaulting over them.

It took half an hour and a nasty scrape but I can do it now.

That might work for you, it might not.
