Blocking
« on: July 31, 2009, 11:22:51 AM »
I have seen a video of people "blocking" i.e. placing their feet in front of their bodies after a small hop or jump to convert forward momentum into upwards momentum. It works on the videos, but those are of people on mats, not concrete, going almost straight up, not forward at all. I was wondering if this is at all practical to use in Parkour/Freerunning, and if so, under what curcumstances and how to do it.

It has incredible use in Freerunning and Tricking. I can't really think of any applications for Parkour but I'm sure there could be some. Blocking works everywhere, not just on mats.

Heres a great video that outlines how it works: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bsg1Xak07jI

Yea, it still comes into play. You do it the same way.

If you are trying to go forward, your "block" is at less of an angle. You might not even end up blocking at all if you are trying to go really far. It's a fairly intuitive process. The idea still stands though, to give yourself the best trajectory. It depends on how high you're trying to go and the level of the surface you're trying to land on.

^ I regard blocking as more of a concept instead of an exact technique. You can translate it into other things that way.
