So this isn't quite "parkour in the news," but I think it goes along really well with that latest David Belle interview that came out not long ago. It definitely smacks of teaching fear instead of courage, and I for one this it's pretty disgusting. PLAYGROUNDS=DEATH NOO!

That's terrible. I mean, what do they want us to do? Nothing? Sit around all day thinking about doing things?

This kind of stuff is, for the most part, ridiculous. Except for the lead/arsenic/etc. issues. Toxic materials are no laughing matter, ever.

About 90,000 of those injuries are serious, such as fractures, concussions and amputations. Now i can understand kids getting a broken arm or a minor concussion on the play ground, but really. If kids are getting hurt so bad that they have to have things amputated it is the parent's fault and they shouldn't be blaming the playground.

people tend to look at things like mirror's edge's controlling government, or the obese space society of Wall E as far-fetched and asinine, all the while ignorant of the seeds sown by society and the growing leaflets taking us in those directions

Falls are most treacherous Most injuries occur when children fall from equipment, the Consumer Product Safety Commission says. Oh, really? I would've thought that those pipes that you talk into and your voice comes out somewhere else were the most dangerous... Although many playgrounds start out well, many communities neglect to rake or refill the loose materials designed to cushion falls, leaving little more than bare earth underneath swings and climbing structures, Smith says. Kids also tend to kick away mulch. Just get rid of the kids to solve this problem... Play structures should never be built over concrete, asphalt, dirt or grass, the safety commission says. God forbid we build playgrounds over grass!! "The top three things to pay attention to at a playground are surfacing, surfacing and surfacing," says Smith, a pediatric emergency medicine physician. "It's everything." Learn to count, Gary. I wouldn't want him as my physician... Despite the potential risks, children don't need to avoid the playground, says Maida Galvez of New York's Mount Sinai School of Medicine. Given the spread of childhood obesity, Galvez says children can benefit from playing outside. But a little homework by parents, schools and community leaders can make playgrounds a lot safer.
"It's important we encourage our kids to be active," Galvez says. Thank you, Ms. Galvez.

Thats kind of pathetic...
It's just like .. whoever brought up Wall-E , When everything becomes so sugar coated, then wheres the fun going to be had? Resulting in Fatter children and Adults ..
Idk, I guess im just rambling.. but there has to be a fine line between accidents on a play ground, and some kid trying to be superman.

According to this, 10 times more kids die from falling down stairs than dying in a playground. I'm not even going into car accidents. These jounalists just want to make a big deal about something to keep their job

Absolutely ridiculous. Politicians complain and shout day after day about childhood obesity and "these kids are so addicted to the TV, to the internet, they need to go outside!" but when they go outside, are confronted with "It's not safe being in the woods! It's not climbing on the playground! No contact soccer! Wouldn't you rather go sit on the bench and talk with your friends? So what, are all the kids supposed to grow up being afraid of every goddamn three foot drop and spec of dirt?

You know, they could be taking this bubble-wrap approach to life because this stuff is highly dangerous, children never recover from injuries, and the next scraped knee will plunge the world into eternal darkness.
...OR it could be because legal services are a multi-billion dollar industry.
