CATS Open Gym - Boulder
« on: November 18, 2005, 01:39:27 PM »
This post is to keep track of plans to go to CATS open gym. Whenever you are going to go or want to plan a meeting there, post here.

CATS open gym runs Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday from 8pm-10pm. It costs $5 to attend.

I went twice this week and plan to start going once a week every week. There are a couple other CU guys (and sometimes a DU guy) who come with me. Hope to see some more of you there training.

When are you planning on going next?  I would love to go on Monday the 12th if you're down.

Sorry, I've got too much studying to do tonight so I'm not gonna make it to the gym.

Where is this?  The only open gym I know of is the Aurora School of Gymnastics.  Where's this CATS?  Any information would be extremely appreciated!

I used to go there when I was around 8 with my breakdance group. I haven't gone in awhile, but I am much younger than all of you. And i'm not as strong as you probably should be to do this kind of stuff. Although I play hockey 4 days a week, so I do have some muscle  ;) . If I can I will try to go to CATS, I have always wanted to learn this kind of stuff anyway, and when I saw a video (some guys that were amazingly good at this) and then the article in the newspaper today, it has gotten me really interested. Unfortunately I live in the mountains, so there isn't a ton of resources for me to use. Anyway, I would like to get started on this stuff.. so any help or information on where or how or what to start with would be greatly appreciated.

Ya my hockey season is just about over, we are going to states this weekend, but every once in awhile my team would have practice at the CU rink. But I might be able to get down the the CU campus for my first time doing this stuff, or to CATS. I live about 15 minutes from the CU campus.. but i'm only 13 so I can't drive obviously. I showed my dad all the videos and he thought it was really interesting. So I might be able to start up soon afterall.

WOW, that is awesome that your article is working already Demon :D.  Even though I'm in the Springs I'd like to welcome you to parkour Avenger ;), I hope to see you at the next big jam.

Thanks Cheetah, I've started to do extreamly basic moves around my school and stuff (Centennial Middle School). I think i'm getting the hang of it, but I deffinitly need to build some more strength. Plus height isn't exactly on my side either  ;) . Still I am having fun just doing the basic stuff, and I am going to try and get my friend into it too. Because he likes this kind of stuff. Anyway, I might be able to get to CATS gym with my dad this weekend.

open gym at cats is monday, tuesday, and thursday from 8-10pm.

as for strength, check out the APK workout on the main page. The workouts are entirely bodyweight and will help your strength a ton. They might be a little too much for you at first so take it easy. Some really beneficial exercises for you to do would include pull ups, handstands and handstand push ups against a wall, push ups, and squats.
