Analyze my kong
« on: October 24, 2009, 06:17:21 PM »
Hey everyone, I just met up with some folks today and with their advice nailed my first kong.  I know I need to do more to really have it be a kong but it's progress.  If you could analyze it and put out any other suggetions I'd appreciate it!

My only advice is simple. You need to put more momentum in your jump. When you plant both feet before takeoff like that you're essentially stopping, canceling out most of your inertia. The same can be said about your landing. Try to land with one foot in front of the other, that way you're running on your exit.

Other than that looks good. Once you learn to carry momentum into your kong you can stretch out the dive distance and learn to vault some longer obstacles.

Keep it up!

Im disagreeing. When you plant both of your feet before takeoff the force of your inertia is generated in your jump allowing for a longer/higher kong vault. If you are look for speed on a smaller kong then i suggest you jump with one foot; but what you did Jewbilee was actually a very good kong. I can't criticize your kong it was a very nice small kong vault :D Keep up the good work.

That was a good kong. But I'm confused, if you showed me that video and didn't tell me what you did, I would have said that you did a good monkey vault. But they are both basically the same right?

Yea, the names are pretty much interchangeable. Kinda like parkour and freerunning - Some say there are differences, some don't.

My understanding of the difference between the two is that a kong has more of a dive involved and hand placement comes after the feet have left the ground where as a monkey is more of a straight up and over motion with hands being placed at the same time the jump is initiated.

Also, thanks for all of the advice.  I've been working on th 1-2 run up but the area i was in didn't allow for much of a run up.  I definitely want to be able to do both take-offs though.

I had seen that tutorial and tried it but there wasn't enough space to really give it a good attempt.  I working on it though!
