Side note:  Already discovered massive inaccuracies in the first day's lecture in my history class.  My teacher was off by tens of thousands of years in her dating of Bering land bridge migration, and also thousands of years off on her dating of the beginnings of Mesoamerican agriculture.  I can tell I'll have to stifle my tongue in that class.

I never do in any of my classes where I spot an obvious inaccuracy. If it's somethig that they are trying to teach as fact, it should be true and I don't hesitate to speak up. But then again, not a great way to endear yourself to people.

Some professors encourage and welcome debate and appreciate students who cite outside sources in their classroom.  My gut tells me, this is not one of those professors.  It will better serve my interests to discuss these topics with open minded professors who would rather encourage the emerging intellect of their students than persuade impressionable people of the validity of their personal opinions.  Fortunately I have professors I know I can talk to about things like this.  It's more important to me to get an 'A' in this class, than to engage in debate with someone who is not likely to listen well, or appreciate my argument.

Ah, oh well!  We'd miss ya anyway if ya stopped posting.

I'm trying to take a few days off.  I can't quite get a full week because of dance commitments at school.

Took yesterday off except some handstands.

Today had ballet class, mostly just barre exercises (lots of partial squats (plies), stretching and leg raises with the leg pronated at the hip.)  Also handstands and climbed a tree.  Friday, Saturday and Sunday will be rest days.  I've probably overtrained a bit lately, so I'll need this.

Sunday will be hard to stay sedentary as it's our local weekly jam/beginner training, but I'll do my best to passively teach and not exert myself.

Yup, it was hard to take it easy today. Ditch came out to train and he was really good, said he's been climbing trees his whole life as well as training PK on his own for awhile. We played add-on for a bit and did one slow FTL run. Good broad jump, he made the big up precision/catleap @ SRHS that's far-ish.

It was interesting, after spending time training around The Tribe, Miami Freerunning and Team Tempest, I'm seeing even more new things @ SRHS. I was looking around, going "Oh, I bet Frosti or Leon could easily do a running precision onto that rail from the top of those stairs." It's inspiring to spend time around such talented and hard-working people, it drives home that we humans are capable of so much.

I did try to take it really easy though. The next time I'll have the opportunity to rest two days in a row is labor day weekend, then Thanksgiving (maybe). I'm glad I rested as much as I did.

After training I was messing around with ballet leaps, handstands, bridges, back walkovers and planche progression with a girl I've been seeing. I'm sure she'll be showing me up on planche soon! (Note: I was actually able to hold advanced-tuck planche for a second, but I feel I need to work tuck planche more before I move on.) Last night we walked to a nearby grocery store and I discovered some pipes perfect for brachiating on.

I swear, it's waaay harder to rest than to train!

Modern Dance tonight. Funness. Fairly easy.

Just before class I was messing around and I got to 90 degrees on my right hand one-arm chinup (OAC)! Not only that, but I held it there for long enough to shout and get my roommates attention.  This is huge progress for me, and I haven't been working OAC progression at all. Which is a testament to:

1) Rest
2) Starting Strength
3) Weighted pullups.

One day (soon?) I will have kipping OACs bilaterally, and bilateral one-arm handstands.

My left side is lagging way behind, barely get any degrees of motion on that side.

Thanks Spencer!

Today was brutal and long.

3 hours of ballet between the morning and evening.  Two classes, two different teachers, two different methods/styles (one Vaganova, one Balanchine).  TWICE THE FUN!

Then I auditioned for a local modern dance company tonight, pretty much on a whim.  I'm not sure at all if I have any chance, but I'm grateful for the experience.  We danced for 2+ hours... including a little contact improv! (Though way more basic than what's in this video, still tons of fun!)

Five hours of dance.

Also... an hour of lab, and 3 hours of lecture.  Plus, I went grocery shopping today.  Now I must cook (a very late) dinner and sleep!  Good night APK!

Need some help in this thread please.  Must start a new cycle that will reflect my insane work/dance school load: 12-14 hour days M-TH, 8 hours of work Friday, rehearsals Saturday, PK Sunday.

Been working handstands between classes a lot.  I'm working on straightening.  My toes are more pointed, my body is longer, I must get my head/neck a bit less arched.  Times are improving (no stopwatch use, though, to measure by how much) and my feel for the hold is as well.  I'm also working on transitioning from feet together to straddle and back, and trying incorporate shoulder sways.  These are to help with the progression to one arm HS, a "someday" goal.

Found a bunch of new little training spots at my school today.  Mostly tree stuff: brachiations, catleaps, etc.

My backwards cat balance up rails on stairways is greatly improving, though I haven't trained it much lately.  The 15-20 foot rail in front of my film class used to stifle me, I could only get two steps at most.  Today it was easy.  I used to train cat balance ceaselessly, but lately have been working more on bigger moves: precisions, cranes, catleaps, wall runs.  All I can think of is that ballet is really helping my balance, which was already my strongest skill area.  Zac Cohn showed me some rad walking rail balance variations @ CU, but I've always been way more comfortable and interested in cat balance.

Speaking of ballet, I think my teacher at school is trying to break me.  She was trying to extend the range of my back bend today and I was nervous as hell thinking about my recent back troubles (over-arched on a dive in July, sore since then when I arch under a load).  The last bit of class today was way beyond my skill level, but she and I had a good laugh about it.  My pirouettes need work form-wise, but I was able to get doubles (not clean, but not horrible) today!

Walking around campus today I had some good ideas for things I'd like to put into a video if I ever make a "sampler."  I'll have to talk someone into filming it for me.

HOLY SHIT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!  I just checked my email and I actually got offered a spot in that dance company!  Wow, I'm so f'n excited!  Didn't expect this at all.  I'm betting my PK experience and strength (did some lifts/holds during the contact segment) are what really got me in.  Wow.  So begins another new journey!

Thanks Max!  Why do one thing when you can do many?

Today I worked on some L-Sits at work and was pretty disappointed.  I've done a 25 second hold before, but today I was quitting at 15s.  I'm gonna chalk it up to fatigue/Lil' Caesars' pizza for lunch.  Lots of handstands too.  Really starting to get the toes pointed/legs together hold much more stable, and also the coordination for transitioning from legs together to straddle.  Today it was a lot easier to get my head down too.  It's all in the time you put in. Getting there on these.

Weekly PK practice today.  Good fun with the fellas, but I had to leave early because I had lunch plans with my dad.  So, not the most strenuous session, but fun nonetheless.  Several long precisions, a few add-on runs, some hot lava.  Did a palm spin today in the add-on, which was fun.

What I love about add-on is that it makes me work someone else's favorite techniques, not just my own.  I'm not much interested in what most folks call "freerunning" movements (to me it's all parkour), so it's rare for me to try palm-spins or flips.  However, I feel there's tremendous benefit to traceurs from mastering any fine and gross motor skill, whether it's a kong vault, a palm-spin or a grand jete (ballet leap).

Incidentally, I did a grand jete over a low wall today while running to grab my shirt and water bottle and decided that even a ballet leap can be a practical way to pass an obstacle.

As always, I worked handstands throughout the day, elbow levers too.

I'm becoming more interested in learning a few "tricks," I think mostly as a result of my handstanding/planche goals and dance.  I think it would be awesome to throw a butterfly-twist into a modern dance piece, or do an elbow lever on another dancer's back, then transition to an L-sit.

On a person's back? That's... That's... THAT'S MADNESS!

Be careful though, that might be a tricky one to pull off..
