There's a little section in Hebert's book on games, sport, and manual labor. Problem is that the games are just listed by name, as if everyone knows them. That was probably true in 1909 France, but not in 2009 USA.
So I'm trying to hunt down these games. The first one I hit ["Le Saute-Mouton" - "The Jumping Sheep"] is this terrible document that Google Translate can't handle. I'm not sure if it's misspelling, or slang... It's like someone who doesn't know English well trying to translate Ozzi's forum posts to Russian.

But it was played by 16 year old mousses [apprentice sailors] at a French school. That's credibility - because Hebert taught at schools for apprentice sailors. So it's probably the right version of the game, and not some sissy version.
