TIPS:
1 Stay safe.
2 Get as healthy as possible.
3 Watch the diet.
4 Work on short sprints for speed
5 Full-body lifts [deadlift, press, jerk, snatch] for strength and power.
6 Lots of low 1-3' drops, landing on the balls of your feet. Try to land as soft and quiet as possible. If you have a chance, do it barefoot. You'll immediately be able to tell if you're doing something wrong. Also, try landing and immediately springing back up.
7 Pull-ups, explosive pull-ups, weighted explosive pull-ups to help you with wall-ups and cats. Muscle-ups if you can do them.

That will get you in shape for almost anything Ozzi might throw at you. From there it's just a matter of learning some of the basic vaults, and the parkour roll. I used to put the roll higher up on the list, but now that I'm doing more pk in nature, it's not practical to roll on lumpy rocks.

Thanks for tips. I will start today. How many people usually train together in your group?

Nice tips Gregg  ;)
Well Tom, it varies... In O'ahu there are many traceurs (a practitioner of parkour), but not everyone always makes it to the jams. However, many of these people train on their own or have small groups of traceurs that live close by to eachother.
We try to gather a good size group twice a month for conditioning and to practice flowing trough different environments. Sometimes we go hiking and other times we train in spots around the city. Usually we get from 5 to 20 people at a jam, our community is young, but still growing.
Hopefully we'll see you one day so you can enjoy the experience with us. Meanwhile good luck with your training.

Thanks Gregg. Already learned something. I normally land flat-footed whenever i jump,be it off of trucks or playing basketball etc. but I thought to myself today," Why didn't I think of that before?!" No shock up legs at all. Thanks again. And I allready have first course lined up. Remember I'm in Iraq, I live next door to a big palace. You should see the roof! Thanks for giving me a new goal. Video will be ready by December.

If you find someone who does BJJ or judo, or one of the other martial arts that involves falling or throwing, they can teach you the basic martial arts rolls. Learn the front and back rolls, and the side fall.

If you're going to jump the roof of the palace, you'd better be faster than a speeding bullet ;D

Hey guys, my name's Chris, but I used to go by C.T., but whatever's easiest to remember, go for it. I just moved here from Naperville, IL and I'm gonna be a freshman at UHM this fall. I'm 18 years old, been doin' parkour for about 2 years off and on, but this last year I've adopted it as a lifestyle/philosophy if you know what I mean.
Well I don't really know too many people here, or know the spots too well, so it'd be really cool if someone could show me around sometime this week before school starts haha. Shoot me a message and we'll make it happen. Evening'll probably work better though because I have orientation. But yeah, I think that's about it. See you around!

Hey CT. Good to have you here man. I think Ryan is going to one of the spots tomorrow. Pali look out. You can check several of the current ones HERE

We also have frequent jams that you are more than welcome to. UH has great spot, I am sure you will run into them sooner or later.
Check out the Bootcamp section, you will find info about upcoming session and jams.

 Hope to see you around.

Welcome, CT.
Ryan, he's only a freshman... I guess more power to you if you already know what you want to do.
[For some reason I thought you were younger, Ryan. My bad ;D ]

Haha yeah depends on what time you're going to Pali. I have NSO basically all day tomorrow, until around 5ish? Yeah so evening'll probably work better if you're not too exhausted after Pali.
I've noticed some areas, like Bilger and the business buildings, that look good. I'm in Hale Kahawai btw.
My major is French right now, and I'm going to switch to Peace Studies but it's interdisciplinary so I have to wait until I have 55 credits. No big deal though.
Thanks for the phone number too, mine's 630-605-4414. Don't worry, it's the same price to call and text as it is for anyone here. AT&T hooked me up haha. I'll see you around, if not tomorrow sometime soon.
My only transportation is my bike, my bus pass, and my feet, so it shouldn't be too big of an issue, but anything short-notice and more than 5 miles away is gonna be an issue haha.
I feel like this is a really eclectic post without transitions, but I think you'll get the info out of it. Thanks for the welcome guys!

CT, I have no idea what NSO is, but I'm gonna try go to kokokahi tom from 8pm-9:30pm... I can give you a ride if you need.  Call me tom around 2:30pm if you wanna come.  Realistically I have a 50/50 chance of working... so I may or may not be able to go.  I'll try to post on here if I'm heading down or not.

Hey Gang!

Just wanted to let you all know I'm still alive and kicking, just doing a lot of crisis management right now at work.
We kinda got slammed with priority cases. (I thought the economy was recovering, but I guess not)
Families being evicted, no food, people being arrested, etc.  all kinds of crazy stuff going on.

Hopefully, I'll have time soon to make it to the jams again.

BTW, welcome Matt, Tom, Stacie and CT!

UH has some really good spots. JC can prolly tell you a couple funny stories about smelly fish water and a 10 story parking structure.  ::)
Those were good times!

I hope I can make it if work doesn't get in the way. Yeah, I used to go to jams pretty regularly, but work kinda took over recently most probably because of the economic climate and all the uncertainty out there. A lot of people are afraid and don't know how to deal with it. I do outreach and social work with at-risk teens and their families. I've just had a lot of priority cases come up one after another lately.
