Sprint/Walks Vs. Jogging
« on: June 30, 2009, 10:09:15 PM »
This has been on my mind for awhile because I've been planning on getting a sort of cardio program going for myself (starting on Monday due to some other stuff that I'm going to be starting then as well)

Anyways, I was wondering if it would be more beneficial to train my sprints with walking in between or to work on my jogging endurance. I'm built for and more naturally capable of sprinting. I also find it more enjoyable. However, my endurance is kind of pathetic. I'm pretty sure jogging would help out with that a lot...but for parkour I wonder if sprinting be more applicable.

I'm just wondering if anyone has run into this and what the general idea is. Also, is it a good idea to switch it up? Say focus on sprinting/walking one day and then jogging the next? Thanks for the help in advance!

Cheers,
Lydia

Also, be thankful you like to sprint... You probably won't after a 400x4 set...

Steve did a really nice article on it too, if you're interested in the details: http://eshlow.blogspot.com/2009/06/why-speed-work-is-necessary-for-elite.html

Basically the gist is that if you sprint enough, you'll see your endurance getting better too. But if you just work on jogging endurance, you generally won't see your sprints getting any better. :)
Just take the next step.A day without a challenge is a wasted day.
