World record 10k (~6 miles, just over the 5 mile mark here) is about 4:30 pace through the race.  If we assume you are the world record holder and 4:30 pace is your max then running at a 5:00 pace would be ~90% of your max.  That means that you would run the 5 miles to the gym is 25 minutes....

90% of your max is not a warmup...so if you are this world record holder then you would likely want to run at about 60% of your max to warm up if that is its intention...which would be 7:30 minute mile pace.  That means your "warmup" would take you 37.5 minutes.  A warmup that is nearly 3/4 of an hour is way way way too long...and that is if you are a world class elite 10k runner....

5 mile may not be long but if you are looking to do strength training afterwards then it is probably best to NOT run that 5 miles before you get in the squat rack to lift 300 pounds.

Yeah, I was thinking about this today as I was training.  Long nature pk session, running most of it, swimming too and crawling and climbing all over rocks and trees.  Because I ran so much (only 3 miles or so, but more that anyone ever runs at a jam) this thread popped into my head, LOL!

As I thought about it, it's more of a time things for me than anything else.  I work full-time, go to school (full-time in fall and spring) and train frequently.  The only times I'd possible have to lift weights, I kinda need to be time-efficient.  A bike might be the way to go.

However, when should I go to the gym Chris?  Weekends are out because I want to be well-rested for long parkour jams.  Mornings are out because I'm not a morning person and I've found I can't lift as much at 6AM as at 6PM or 10PM.  So that leaves either Monday and Wednesday, after a three hour dance class (which includes a pilates-based warm-up), or Tuesday and Thursday, which will end up being before or after parkour.

Would I be over training if I throw in an hour or so of weight lifting Monday and Thursday?  I'm gonna stick to basic lifts and hit the whole body (bench, standing overhead, deadlift, squat, weighted pullups and I need a few more to add, I'd like 4-6 lifts each day, two days).

If it's too much, I'll cancel my membership and save my cash, then take a weights class in the fall.  I lifted four days a week before starting parkour and I've retained most of that strength.  I miss it, but I can hold out a few more months if would be the best thing.

Well it all depends on how much you are doing.  Listen to your body.  I am not sure I would do 4 heavy movements in the same day as all of that other junk.  Parkour and dance can be pretty brutal - but you should do your strength training AFTER those events if you are going to do it on the same day.

That said, if you are wiped from the parkour/dance then you may be taking a bunch of etra rest days.  I would start out with 2 strength movements per day..and with that volume and frequency I would make them both consist of the same movements.  It will be something to experiment with, for sure...but its definitely possible to make ample strength gains in that time.

What do you mean?  Sprints are conditioning.

Sprinting

Sprinting can be used as conditioning generally with lower rest times... but if you're aiming to be faster and more powerful you should do true sprints (rest about 1 min for every 10m you're running). So 50m sprints would have 5 mins rest between each

Yup.

But if you're true sprinting you're not going to be running more than a couple iterations over 100m anyway
