Meat
« on: May 24, 2009, 06:43:02 PM »
How would I go about eating healthy? The main problem is I eat nothing but meat and bread...I can't stand the taste of fruit or vegetables, like to the point of vomiting.  I need to lose like 30lbs and don't know how to go about it.

You don't like fruits or veggies?  You better start learning to like them.

Losing fat has a single principle behind it: Eat less calories than you burn and you will lose fat.  There's not two ways about it.  I'll leave it to Chris or someone else to talk about those "carb bombs" that you're eating.

I can tolerate corn but I can only take so much. And technically that's not a fruit or vegetable, its a grain.

Here is my article on eating right.  Read it: http://www.chrissalvato.com/2009/05/eating-right-how-to-get-started/

If you haven't found vegetables you like and you are only eating meat and bread then the problem is likely that you have not explored your vegetables too much.  There are dozens of vegetables in every grocery store.  Each of them can be prepared is dozens of ways that alter their taste and texture.  There must be some combination of a few of them that you like - either raw or prepared in some way you never tried before.

You may also want to look here:  http://performancemenu.com/recipes/index.php
This is a list of recipes that especially avoid grains, breads and dairy so that you can really find the "paleo" recipes that you enjoy.  This should give you a lot of new ideas on how you can prepare fruit/vegetables in ways that you have not imagined before that you will likely find very enjoyable.

Also, Muse wrote up a terrific article on preparing foods here: http://www.americanparkour.com/component/option,com_smf/Itemid,159/topic,10965.0/
Read through the article and experiment with each different type of food and style.  So, for example, buy a pound of broccoli and try to prepare it in the few ways she lists.  If none of those are appealing then try it with peppers, then mushrooms, etc etc.  You will find SOMETHING prepared in SOMEWAY that you will like.

What is it about fruits and veggies that you dislike? If you have only eaten poorly-prepared plant foods in the past, then it's no wonder you dislike them. What kinds of fruits and veggies have you eaten? How were they prepared? What didn't you like about them?

Knowing this can help me give you some specific strategies for how to prepare them in a way that you can train yourself to like, or at least tolerate, them.

as though there were some obstacle in the way;
and yet: as though, once it was overcome,
she would be beyond all walking, and would fly.

Treat vegetables like cardio. You'll hate it like hell at first, but then you get used to it and you like it.
