Beginner workout: advice/structure wanted
« on: May 09, 2009, 08:41:08 PM »
So, yeah, I (as the subject suggests) would like some, preferably a lot of, advice pertaining to training. I am 16, 144-45ish. I'm pretty bad at planning, so naturally I can't come up with a workout for myself. It probably also doesn't help that other than x-country in the fall, I do diddly by way of physical crap. Currently (for the last week), I'm simply doing the APK Warmup minus the burpees/quadrapedal movement (because I didn't even notice that section of the page until 3 hours ago = /) followed by a 3 mile run followed by 45 minutes worth of stretching from a guide which I found on some parkour forum, perhaps this very one. My goals: Excuse the manifest lack of specificity, but really, to be able to practice parkour.

Wow you sound exactly like me! ;D  When I train, I do as many push ups, pull ups, sit ups, leg raises, and calf raises as I can, then I do several laps around my yard of QM, some vaults, then repeat 2 to three times.

Aku, do a baseline

Find out first where you are, then start drawing lines in the sand in terms of where you want to be in 1 month, 6 months, 1 year, etc

There are some good threads here where people just post how many push-ups/pull-ups they can do in a single try and how many they can do in a minute, etc

Once you've figured that out, then train for your goals. If you can do 2 pull-ups, and you want to be able to do more, well, train pull-ups.

I'm going to help you be more specific on your goals. Since you can practice parkour right now, you basically want to improve your physical condition so you can...?

I'm sure there are other non-parkour related goals you might have that parkour can benefit from. For instance, I want to be able to bench press my body-weight 10 times. Things like that
