When it comes to music I'm all about variety and diversity.  Very little of what I listen to is given airplay, but after all these years without TV and radio, I guess I wouldn't know if did anyway.  (I know, I'm one of those music snobs)

A lot of my favorite stuff is music my friend's have made.  There's so much amazing music in my hometown (Santa Rosa) that I don't really need to look any further.  Nonetheless, I still do.  After all, over the years I've realized that when I lived in Sacramento, or the Bay Area and now here in "wine country," there's amazing music everywhere.  Most of it never gets huge, but that's okay.  I get to meet and talk to the musicians I like, even the bigger touring bands.  The corporate music machine sucks compared to the incredible local and "underground" stuff out there.

Can't get enough music.  Love it.  Genres are unimportant.  Punk, hardcore, indie, hip hop, electronic, country, world, it's all incredible.

Electronic: Goodriddler, M83, Justice

Hip-hop/rap: K'naan (Somalian MC raps in English and is INCREDIBLE), Del the Funkee Homosapien, Hieroglyphics Imperium, MC Paul Barman (insanely funny Prince Paul-produced awesomeness), MC Chris, MC Lars

Old school punk/hardcore: 7 Seconds, Minor Threat, The Germs*, Op Ivy, Fang*, Verbal Abuse, Black Flag, Flipper*

Newer punk: Leftover Crack, Fun People (Argentina)

Indie: Elliot Smith, Neutral Milk Hotel, The Iditarod, Hella

Reggae and Jamaican Ska: Desmond Dekker, Toots and the Maytals, Jimmy Cliff

There's so many more, too.  There's always more!  That's a good start.

Ah.. All the big names.  If you're into world/jazz fusion, look into Al DiMeola.  Jazz has come a long way since the 60s. ;)

I'm not a fan of rap, but I do like hip-hop. My real favourites though, are black metal, like the band Summoning, for example. I like techno, and the old time Celtic stuff. I also like folk metal and symphonic music.
