Re: Where to parkour

Hey I reacently started parkour, I live in Wisconsin near milwaukee.  My area mostly consists of residential areas and a few stores/buisnesses.  i feel kinda awkward running through peoples backyards, and when i was at a school a janitor called the cops on me for being on the roof (there is no no tresspassing sign).  So i was wondering if there is anyone in the area or state who knows a good spot/area to go to, or if anyone has any ideas.

As has been said before by the so many others before me, there is absolutely no need to be going on a roof unless absolutely necessary, hence the office building scenario as stated above.
All you need is a ton of grass, maybe a wall or so, or even something as simple as a picnic bench.
You don't need much to train for parkour, just a creative imagination.

Oh, and running through people's backyards are tresspassing onto private property, which is never a good thing unless you happen to be EXTREMELY chill (and I mean extreme in the highest of forms) with your neighbor/the people you're dropping into people's yards. Otherwise, it's kinda just rude. What if you were an average joe who was eating dinner, and out of nowhere you see this guy drop into your yard and vanish just as quickly? Me, I'd call the cops. xD
Which again, isn't good. If I were you I'd check out the FAQ: http://www.americanparkour.com/content/category/6/98/417/

It helps a lot and can lead you in a lot of various directions. Also, here's a tip: don't jump anything above your head unless you take EXTREME precautions when you're starting out.

I agree with you guys on the using parkour as a verb, but I think it's pretty funny to see you get irritated over something like that and then not be able to use your/you're correctly.

Please observe my sig. Tracing is Parkour as a verb.

On topic, just train wherever, draw a line on the ground to practice your precisions. Just think of this whole, "finding a training area," thing as just another obstacle to be overcome with the mindset of PK.  I thought of yet another PK name, Flow could be the name of the whole PK mindset.
Hush you.  Scare tactics are more effective.

Try Quadrupedal Movement (abbreviated as QM). It can be done basically anywhere.
Also, always practice the basics: pushups, sit-ups, squats, pull-ups, jumping. These can also be practiced anywhere. If there are local parks closeby, I strongly suggest training there.

but i dont recomend going on roofs,  it is illegal ( counts as tresspasing)

everyone seems to be against going on roofs, but in nearly every Parkour Video, a roof was involved in one way or antoher?!
it isnt parkour to be on a roof, unless you NEED t ojump from roof to roof to get where you wanna be the quickest way possible, there is really no reason to train it, unless you think that one time youll be in your office and an assassin will come and try to kill you, and the only way out is jumping off the roof where the building next to it is so conveniently one story lower :/

i think its pretty pointless (obviously)

actually there's a 3% chance of that happening

i'm not going to comment on
a) the use of the word parkour as a verb or
b) tresspassing on rooftops and the legality of such
seeings as those things have been thoroughly discussed on this thread already
To answer the original question-->
when i go out in my community, the public park has a lot of things i can use for "practicing" parkour--there is playground equiptment, rails leading up to different buildings, low fences around grassy areas, etc. etc. etc. It's a great place to work on a lot of parkour technique.
As for the school--my high school is a great place to mess around, work on technique and vaults and such on ground level. Technically speaking, it's private property, and if someone (janitor, security guard, etc) asks you to leave, you should do so respectfully and quietly, as not to give parkour a bad name or make other traceurs look bad.
I would also suggest practicing rolls or precision jumps in your back/front yard: when i can't get out into the community, i work with what I have at home.

The best way to find new places to get out is to just take a jog around the town-vault over any objects that get in your way, look around, see what you have to work with, and have fun!

lol he isn't using parkour wrong, he is just making his sentence as efficent as possible by removing a verb and then verbifying parkour.  he captures the essence of parkour more than anyone correcting him! ;D

im pretty sure speaking with correct grammar is pretty efficient in getting your point across though..

example

the english thats write are betterest to get while you tell to someone

thats the same as the first sentence, just without grammar

First I wanna lol @ all the word usage asshattery. Protip: Parkour isn't about arguing over the internet and obsessing over the right way to use a word. It's about finding the fastest way through whatever lies ahead of you. Every single one of you are being children.

AS for where to parkour? You're gonna have a harder time finding somwhere NOT to parkour. Anywhere man. I know that seems abstract right now but soon you'll see it. As you progress you'll become aware of what you can do and where you can go. Things will feel natural. That's the key afterall.

To finish, I live in wisconsin too. Madison yo. You should really check out the wisconsin boards in the regional section. Figure out what community is closest to you. Hands on experience and advice from fellow traceurs is quite simply the BEST way to learn.

If you don't even know how to use the word parkour you should definitely not be on roofs anyway.

He didn't use it as a verb, read the sentence again. He used it as a noun.

The title of the thread is "Where to parkour."

I'm reasonably sure that's a verb.

You have to be stronger than a football player, faster than a track star, have more endurance than a soccer player, and be more be nimble than a basketball player. That's right, it's Parkour.
