HARFORD weekly jams - sunday, feb 05
« on: April 16, 2009, 11:47:26 AM »
when - sunday, 1pm to 3 or whatever
where -  harford community college,   at the 1/5 mile walking circle and pull-up bars over by the althletic fields parking lot.  its the first parking lot after you turn onto thomas run rd from rt-22
I wait around there until 1:10, then move on to the big stairwell behind harford technical high school to warm up for 15 - 20 minutes.  From there, we go to the playground between harford tech and john archer for another 15 minutes.  Beyond that, we wander around and practice whatever anyone wants to work on

if you're there, but don't see us, then try my cell - 443 299 2277

today was cool.  wandering around gave me time to think about what parkour is and how it can help me.  found many places, in stoney forest, where parkour would be useful.  fallen trees that would suck to go around.  rocks that were just out of reach, but needed to be reached to cross the river
the easiest spots to appreciate were in the parking lot.  there were two gates and a fence.  the fence was 2 - 3 ft high, one of the gates was 5 ft and the other was 4 ft at one end and 6 ft at the other
there are miles of paths back there and once you get deep into them, there are fallen trees all over the place and in your way.

not sure where i'll be going next week.  i'd like to visit a different location, in harford, each jam.  probably just stick to parks.  i'll update the first post when i figure it out

rockfield park sucked.  there was nothing to play on, except the usual fences and benches.  i'm going back to stoney forest next week.  it has hundreds of acres to play on and most importantly, a big river to swim in.  it was way to hot today not to have a body of water nearby

I'm in Easton for the summer.
that would be awesome, if easton weren't really far away

anyway, i skinned my palms last week and was expecting it to rain saturday.  so although i went out to stoney forest, i just walked.  i was expecting to walk in the rain, so i didn't bring any shoes, just walked barefoot.  when i realized that it wasn't going to rain, the lack of shoes and my injured hands prevented me from training.  my hands are healed enough to go back to training (with gloves), so i'm looking forward to next sat

cool to see another person in harford.  i don't know where box hill is.  internet hints at it being near abingdon
lol @ craigslist.  i wondered if that group posting would catch any attention.  maybe i should post it weekly and see what happens

Yea, abingdon near the festival, but closer to saint mary's church, off of 924.
Ive been trying to find a better place to train, but ive never really gotten the chance to look.

yeah, same time as the first post (1pm).  its just me and another guy.  we've been meeting up regularly for a few weeks now.
if you need a ride, just give me a call an hour or two before 1.  you don't sound too far out of my way and harford needs all of the people it can get

Hey.  I'm the other guy that has been training up at HCC.  You should come up and train with us sometime.  We always have a good time.

the rain is supposed to stop around the time we meet, so i'm still heading out today.  i'll try to post weekly to stop this thread from disappearing off the first page

We are definitely meeting November 22 at 1:00 p.m.  We will probably be in that big, empty parking lot next to the tennis courts and baseball field.  I think it's like parking lot 'H' or something.

We keep finding new and interesting spots at HCC.  We're thinking about bringing a camera next week and trying to document what we've found so far.  Hopefully it'll draw more people out to come train with us.

Sunday looks like it will be good again this week.  Partly cloudy, mid 50's.  I'm looking forward to training.

I measured the length of my body with my arms and legs stretched out.  I am about 7'6" with everything stretched out.  That means the length of those wooden benches we were using today is a little over 7 feet.  That's pretty good.  I feel like we could go a little farther.

smashed my finger pretty bad yesterday and there is snow everywhere, so i won't be out there today.  can't jump safely because of the snow and even if i did jump, i can't catch myself with my damaged hand.  safer for me to rest today
