Are you a traceur from New York looking for people to train with? One of the big problems we have is that people pop in looking for people, but they don't stick around because no one responds in the first few days. A few months later, someone finds that thread, but can't contact the original person again! This program should help solve this.
I want to start an "area rep" program. Each city will have a representative who is in charge of helping new traceurs in the area and making sure they have all the information they need to start training safely.
Responsibilities include:
- Have name and email address where you can be reached that you check regularly.
- Live in the area you want to represent for a majority of the year.
- Checking the APK forums on at least a semi-regular basis to stay informed of events, talk to anyone new in the area, etc. Keeping a strong online presence will help improve the community, both locally and for all of upstate.
- A link to the website, facebook group, or however else you disseminate information on the internet. If you don't have one, email me (zac@americanparkour.com) and I can help you set up something simple. By posting training information online, it because very easy for new people to know where to go and what areas are active.
- A willingness to teach. This program is essentially setting up community leaders. But if you don't enjoy teaching, people probably shouldn't be coming to you for help.
There are a few major cities I'm listing below, and a few that already have a rep. For the ones that don't, feel free to contact me and volunteer. If you are leading a community in your hometown (or looking to start one), even if it's just a town of 500 people, email me and let me know. I'll add it to the list.

SyracuseIthacaIf you live in the suburbs of one of these areas, please contact your reps anyway. Even if you can't train with them regularly, maybe they can come to you sometimes. Or more likely, someone else from your area will contact them, and the rep can put the two of you in touch with each other.
Summer is coming up, and there's a lot of big jams planned. PKNY, the annual New York City jam, should be awesome as usual. I hope at least all the reps can make it down for that, and there we can all meet in person, talk, maybe plan some cross-city events for next year.
Please contact me if you're interested in becoming a representative for your area.
