Sorry guys, I shoulda posted up about this earlier. The final cut of the episode was shown to one of the MTV execs and he was blown away. He was confident he could sell the show as a series and didn't want to waste such a solid pilot on such a crappy time slot. The air date has been pushed back in order to get the show into prime time hours. I'll post here as soon as I know when it will air.

Now that's an interesting turn of events. The show must have turned out preety guud for all the fuss.

beyond all feelings this is awsome. and we all may not like the mtv portion of it but everyone with common sense knows that mtv is not REAL reality but a more amp'd up version of it. this is the foundation we need to grow. cant wait to here when the show is going to air

epic growth fail: we need parkour to be LESS of a spectacle not a series onMTV

if everyone in the world saw parkour as tangible and 100% possible [WHICH IT IS] then it would be more likely for
-the cop to run up the wall, climb up, qm the edge and have a convo with you
-the security officer to critique your lazy vault than to call you a punk or monkey
-you to not get kicked out of a spot
-there to be a pk club in every metropolitan city

sidenote: i was asked today by a teacher "oh.. so its one of those TRENDS?"
-to what extent can i defend parkour if it's on MTV
-no one anywhere will take us seriously, as a people who care deeply about the well being of themselves, others, and their environment.
for we shall be dubbed: jackasses, and it will reflect on the way cops treat us [especially after the surge of posers sure to come]

Guys, just go with it.

It's going to get mainstreamed anyways (the process has already started), and when it does, we're going to get posers.

Fact of life.

Look what happened to surfing, skateboarding, etc, etc.

You aren't going to be able to stop society's fleeting fascination with something, but you CAN educate them better once they have their foot in the door.

So let them hear about it from this show. Trust the people they've chosen to convey it in the way they've always conveyed it, and educate people when they need educating. When a poser asks for instruction, give it willingly. You can keep him from doing stupid things, and either one of two things will happen: He'll wuss out or give up when he realizes we aren't an EXTREME SPORT, or you'll make a real traceur out of him.

Resisting change of this magnitude never ends well. You cannot stop the river, but you can redirect it.

I agree with most of what you paid except for the idea of posers.  Would-be posers tend to flock to something because they like its image and want to be recognized for it.  Your standard skateboard punk is probably not going to be dressed in a polo and a pair of khakis from American Eagle.  Those that cannot skateboard but like to be thought of as one imitate the edgy "rebel without a cause" image.

Parkour on the other hand doesn't really have an image.  As I talked about a bit in the other thread, having sweatbands on the wrists or elbows is really our only "Oh he's a traceur" thing.  (I mean, let's face it, jogging shorts, t-shirt, and a wristband isn't exactly edgy)  Sure, there will be guys that have never done a cat grab in their life that go on the Urban Freeflow or APK store and pick up a t-shirt or two just for the logo.  But on the whole, surfers have the whole "bro!" culture, skateboarders have their rebellious angst, parkour has...  well it doesn't have anything.  It's so diverse and so natural that there is no one thing that defines a traceur.

So for me, it's not about redirecting any river... it's about fishing the ones that can actually respect the mind/body philosophy and giving them the chance to improve their capabilities as a human being.  (Sorry, can't help with libido!)

i was walking home with a friend [who runs] and there's this hose tied about waist hieght, between two trees.. and i dive rolled over, then qm side rolled under, and rail spun this barrier [the spin where you lazy>sit>lazy out] and these two big men [adorned in "hood wear"] walk up to me and my boy, who was coming out of a precision to diveroll, and one is like "[SMILING] ayyy yall be doiin dat shiyit, its ...freerunnin right; fool, dat shit be raw.. yall on dat next shit.. i had scoped you on dat lil roll you had did out dere" his friend steps up "yea dat shit be spreadin da energy in a fall right, yeh, dats some shit man.."

im noddin, kinda giggling really [overcome with glee for some reason]

my boy catches his breath first, "yea yall kno bout that, we train.."

other guy "dats why you got dose aahhnr [referance to my five fingers] yeh dem thangz tight, dey raw kid..dats dat next shit rite dere"

big guy, "fool the otha day i saw sum shit [his boy inturrupts: aDOCUMENTARY] ..yeh, a documentary on cable.. dawg dat shit raw, see if i wasn't so big, right fool, i could get into dat shit......but datz yall man i see you.. but anywayz i just wanted to tell yall keep movin, i like what yall do..... holdYAheadUP[meaning stay positive]"

-there is no way a show on mtv is going to have the same effect as jump Westminster/ London [as i presume this was the forementioned doc.]

IMO:
-an increase in growth should be done by making pk/fr/ladd something tangible, that everyone can do [which it is]
not through spectacles

-we should learn from european movements, like ADAPT, and adapt our own version of pk certification
we should promote it in PE not mtv
we should be working on educating the nation not developing a series

-it took almost two decades for pk to be documented in a film in the uk, and by that time they already set the basic necessary foundations for that to not harmfully affect the growing community

why can't we wait half a decade..

ladd/movnat should have a special on discovery channel or animal planet [art of movement: the human animal in motion]
and then have parts on pk and fr

-then it will forSURE be somewhat beneficial, through educational quality
[think about it]
hey kid what are you doing!
-L'art Du Deplacement
whats that
-dont you watch discovery channel?
...
vs.
hey kid what are u doing!
-parkour
oh that stupid shit on mtv, get outta here before i have you arrested for tresspassing

--some poser cracks the ground/breaks a  rail on a precision>says its parkour, i have the right to move so f-u, then runs into the distance> owner ands parkour to "no rollerblading, no skateboarding..."

______________________________________________________________________________________________________________

its the passive attitude of "just go with it" thats gonna lead to 100 or so men/women [traceurs+mtv employees involved] messing up the the practice of parkour for a community of thousands

its a scary thought: to not be ALLOWED to move, just because a few heads chasing paper took a wrong turn at definition and philosophy..

it may be this show, it maybe a show in its aftershock, but if we continue to stand by and "go with it" the show will happen and pk will get a bad name.. and then in three years when we, the REAL traceurs still exist, we will only be reminders of that show, the show that flushed pk down a drain
______________________________________________________________________________________________________________

the guy that invented skateblocks [screws/other objects, used to deter skaters from using obstacles in their movements] claims to actually LIKE skateboarding...

so maybe the guy that will come up with a way to deter pk will be an aficionado, or maybe even a "traceur"
why would a community of people focused on efficient movement[s ] want to move their community INEFFICIENTLY?

Jorge you get way too caught up in definitions.  People aren't going to care what you call it, if you are doing some movement that they don't like they're just going to say i don't give a shit what you call it.

> maybe you didn't get my example.. it was to show the effect of network influence,

i meant that if a show aired on say discovery channel, it would be automatically rid of the negative stigmas behind other, relatively incredulous, networks.

whereas when it gets on mtv and kids parents' ask what theyre watching, they say parkour,fr [..watever..] and then it's automatically associated with mtv, the network that brought you JackASS

and then come the impossibility to be taken seriously, by anyone, we'll be treated like all those kids with cameras trying to make their own  youtube jackass series

-our culture will become the new fad: people will walk around malls in sweats, tanks, running shoes, and wristbands.. it will be "in" like skinny jeans nd scarves

I wasn't just referring to this post.  You've done this before where you assume that people will care what you personally call it.

If I can't speed vault it I can monkey vault it.
If I can't monkey vault it I can kong it.
If I can't kong it I can kash it.
If I can't kash it I can climb it.
If I can't climb it there's another way around it.
