Here's the whole story. I posted this through our facebook group, but I don't feel like rewriting it so it's just been copy-pasted:
So, some of you have already heard about this, but for those who have not, here's the deal:
We got stopped by police today during training and asked to stop, which, though annoying, is not unusual. What IS unusual is that they told us not to do it again...at all.
Apparently, someone on campus was doing parkour/freerunning near the communications building last week, and subsequently fell and seriously hurt themselves. We don't know who it was or what they were doing, but the campus has officially gone into "No Tolerence" mode when it comes to parkour. We were only given a warning, but the officer told us that if we're cought training on campus again, we'll get charged with trespassing.
Needless to say, this sucks, but there's hope!
The plan to make a club with the campus is still underway. We are, even now, talking with the OSI representative about liability waivers for training on campus. So, while we're banned for now, as soon as the club is made official, we'll be in the clear.
In the meantime, there's nothing to stop us from conditioning on campus and training elsewhere. As soon as we were asked to leave, we headed over to Valencia to scope the place out and found a handfull of pretty cool spots. We'll be actively looking for new spots around UCF for future training, and believe me, WE WILL STILL BE TRAINING.
For the time being, I just want to emphasize to everyone that you should respect the campus' decision on this. We may not like it, but they have to cover their butts too, and they're well within their rights to tell us to stop. Once we clear up the situation through legitimate channels we'll be free to train as we please, but until then, further provocation will only weaken our cause. We want to establish this club as a SAFE, RESPONSIBLE organization that is dedicated to DISCIPLINED, METHODICAL parkour training. The campus needs to know that we're not daredevil risk-takers, and that we care deeply about our bodies and our environment.
Thanks, and train safe! We'll be in touch!
