kong vault
« on: March 27, 2009, 04:51:49 PM »
ok, well i was konging a table the other day and i noticed that my starting position is kind of akward. i do the spilt foot launch just like everyone tells me to do. but when i do it, i noticed that i will step with my left foot, then bounce back to my left foot, then to my right. but when i see everyoen else do it they will like, step with there right foot then left then right.

its basicly my starting of my split foot take off that bugs me, but i cant do it the other way, its uncomfortable.

does anyone get what im saying?
and will this effect my kongs at all?

So you're saying you sort of do a skip before the split foot take off? I don't see this as being something awful, but you definitely want to be flexible with your footing. Just work on it slowly. In time you'll get it down smoothly.

I do the same thing for some reason. I don't think it really affects my kong though, so I wouldn't worry about it unless you see everyone else who doesn't do it starting to leave you way behind. There aren't specific rules for how to do pk movements, just guidlines that helped those who went before us. If they don't help you for whatever reason, do what does work for you.

well the problem is is, i can kong something waiste high, and get about 8 1/2 feet off of it. but i see people on parkour videos without the skip, and they just like fly through the air, and i dont think my kongs are maxed. but idk what to do to improve them. besides repatition, there has to be something im doing wrong to not go as far as i can. =/

another problem is konging small objects, i cant split step to kong them. any suggestions on that also?

I think that's just a comfort issue that a lot of traceurs have when learning kongs. I've been doing them since day one of training over a year ago and I still catch myself doing that when I'm pushing the limit of height and/or distance. Just work a lot of kongs on whatever obstacle you're really comfortable with until you feel confident. It should go away once you adjust to the fact that you can clear it without that taking one hand off, and you will not hit your feet.

If i understand this right, it sounds like you are doing a little skip before u do the vault, as far as that being a problem, well, its not a problem, its perfectly fine, it wont effect your kongs at all. As to your preference of which foot you go off of, thats up to you, if you feel weird going that foot, go to a gym and practice doing them the other way until you feel comfortable,  then do then on the normal ledge outside, the move it to a table. If you have a fear of doing it with the other foot, just look at the obstacle and imagine you self doing it right. Just picture your self doing it.

to me it seems that u have a little stutter step in there before u get to the jump, most of the time when this is used(puposefully) it is to slow down ones momentum, i have the feeling u may be trying to slow urself down to maitain control(just a hunch) this is not aweful but the way i imagine it it seems pretty inefficient. the way i recommend u solvve this is just drill it and build ur confidence level
