Shoe Sticky- Read First!!
« on: March 17, 2009, 02:45:46 PM »
Most questions can be answered here-

Go to the shoe store and find a pair of shoes that feel comfortable. They should be running or cross-training shoes. Skate shoes, casual shoes, walking shoes, tennis shoes, etc. are almost always not what you want because they don't allow for athletic movements or proper running. The shoes should be light, breathable, flexible and have softer rubber on the sole. The sole should not have any plastic whatsoever. Fancy "shox" and nonsense on the heel should be avoided. For this reason, many traceurs prefer the cheaper range of shoes as they are simpler. Padding or shock absorption should NOT be a consideration. All shoes provide plenty and it is up to you to train and be the mechanism that absorbs the shock. Some practitioners like to wear ultra-light weight kung-fu shoes. These provide almost no padding which forces the wearer to have good form and technique. They are also very flexible which allows for a better feel of the ground and other surfaces. Parkour-specific shoes are a decent choice but can often be expensive and hard to obtain. These offerings also often sacrifice certain features such as response and proper running support.

Beyond this DO A SEARCH for specific shoes and questions!!

I am size 4 and looking for some decent parkour trainers (preferably not too expensive), any suggestions? Please post links to shops selling them if you can. Thankyou. :)

If you have 95.00 it is worth while buying a pair of Five Ten Parkour shoes.  Truthfully I couldn't find a pair anywhere except Amazon.com
Here's a website. Still dun know how to make a hyperlink :-[

http://www.amazon.com/Freerunner-Sneaker-Mens-Shadow-Grey/dp/B0014FG3UQ/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&s=shoes&qid=1242515599&sr=8-3

It is really worth while buying a pair of these. They're comfy, sticky, and light.  Not exactly a fashion statement though.

So I ordered some shoes online (martial arts) and with the size changes (they were in some European size, and I guess the converter isn't perfect) my shoes came in a tad big.

What I know:

A)I doubt I'll be growing into them anymore.
B)Width is fine, just a little long... 0.25in<gap<0.5in

My best guess would be to do one of the following:

#1 Ignore it, maybe wear big socks or something
#2 Stick a Dr. Scholl pad in there to take up the extra room.
#3 Shove something soft in the toe.

What do you suggest I do?

Thanks a lot in advance.

I'm sorry to say that the shoes will stretch after awhile, so I guess just wear more socks because insoles in martial arts shoes doesn't really work

the five ten website is  "www.fiveten.com"
i wear the five-ten guide tennis, they are the best shoes i have ever worn. these are finally starting to wear after 2 years of parkour, among other things. i ordered a pair of their savants, and ill post later to tell you how good they are. but the rubber on these shoes are amazing grip, even when wet. you can also get resole kits for them on the site. so if you love your current shoes resole them with their stealth rubber (im sure thats trademarked but whatever).  but the shoes are a bit pricey...but its worth every penny!

hmmm i have some pair that have similar soles to martial arts shoes, apprently one type i found was made by puma, but not any more [they have a similar sole to the sandals i wear when i "rock hop" as i call it [basically i used to go to the old park in my home town and run/walk/climb my way thru the area infront of the old mill dam on the rocks and ledges, which requires shoessimilar in style to those i used when i went rock climbing with a sticky style sole with a reletively "smooth" tread[read "not like hiking boots with the tire like tread"] on the bottom but with more then addequite grip even on wet surfaces

or when all else fail i can use the athletic section of the shoe company that supplys for resterant kitchen worked [the non slip shoe they have to have from shoes for crew which also work supprisingly, i'd use mine if i didn't order boots... every time]

I just went to the K-Swiss site to buy some of the ariakes, and the "apk" coupon code didn't work.  The site said it either wasn't valid or had expired, anyone know anything about this?

It should be noted that having a shoe with a single piece sole is ideal; having a bunch of little rubber pieces on the bottom most always leads to quick tearing and lameness.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Buildering

which demands the most of all features out of a parkour shoe...mostly support then grip. 5.10's maybe or Pegasus, the usual suspects though i wouldn't recommend Ariakes for climbing because dense urban areas contain un-expected puddles and traces of water which is the Ariakes weak point (the ONLY weak point from my perspective).
