Anybody else have chronic back pain and related horror stories?
My back pain all started when I was sparring with my training partner two years ago and got an elbow dropped hard into the lumbar region (we were pretty f#cking crazy and we didn't use any padding or anything, and the gym had a concrete floor covered with flimsy-ass, smelly old carpet that was red so it hid the bloodstains, supposedly...j/k). Anyway, I was out for a while. Then I was training with this guy who was waaaay better than me (my instructor). I was used to getting smacked around by him, he was a heavy hitter. THis time around things got a little out of hand and I got a reverse heelpalm to my hip, which blasted through the lumbar region and out the other hip (the bruise on the opposite side was worse than the one on point of impact). I was pretty scared I was going to piss blood. Fortunately, my back was just reinjured (hey, I'd rather have back pain than piss blood, I was thinking). Anyway, was walking around like an old man with hemoroids for almost three months. But I came back. THEN I was practicing some forms and landing wrong out of a flying knee. THis time the reinjury wasn't that bad at all, but I'm just giiving you a full history.
Now, I've recently stopped going to that gym for various reasons (although I still miss those good ole days). I've also recently started biking....everywhere. One thing I've noticed is that on my racing bike, I've got to lean forward. Anyway, this is making my back pain chronic, and I want to figure out if there's some way I can ride that will be better on the back. I've already got a whole suite of physical therapy routines for the injury, including various stretches and, when the muscle siezes up, laying down on a tennis ball (which f#cking SUCKS, but it works). Anything else anybody could add would be great, because this shit is really starting to chap my hide and get in the way of my training.
