Reverse Vault tips?
« on: March 16, 2009, 04:59:18 PM »
So I just started doing these on a low(like thigh level) bar and I'm having trouble landing. So as soon as I get both legs up, the one that lands first, goes down way before the other can catch up and as I'm landing I feel very disorientated after being swung like that. I feel like I'm almost doing a lazy except I'm leaning further back.

im having a hard time following exactly what you are saying. you mean one foot lands way before the other?

translate that into a good thing, consider that a foot to launch off of into your next step.

you could always try tucking tighter in the vault and trying to go a little further distance wise.

my mind is constantly moving, one day my body will be strong enough to keep up.

Try doing it on something a bit taller than thigh level, like waist level. If you have something high enough to push yourself with your arms, it may feel more natural.

Well, it's mostly just a rotation. You want your back to kind of "roll" over the obstacle, not touching it, but going over it. So yes, you want your body to go over first, then let your legs follow.

I'll be making a tutorial of this movement soon but what I can say is as soon as your hands hit the object you start your rotation and midway through the movement is when you spot your landing. As you start your rotation you should also be in tight, not flailing or really spread out, that could be a reason why your landing may be a bit off.

It always helped me to lead with my butt ( I know it sounds weird but it really does work well) and keep my legs tucked in tight together. This is one of my favorite vaults when it's performed properly.

I'm having trouble finding a good bar to practice this on. The only flat bar I've found has a 3 or 4 foot fall if I mess up. Where in general can I practice these? Are there good bars at parks or near buildings or what?

Pretty much any handrail is great for these.  You don't really need much of a running start to perform this movement, especially if you are trying to go through the slow beginning stages of it.  Also, I've found that doing a reverse into a small drop is easier than normal, because you land nicely and it gives your body a chance to completely turn so that you have no problem wih spotting the landing.  Just get out and look around and make sure to keep an open mind, because the possibilities are all around!! Good luck!
