Jumping large gaps
« on: March 06, 2009, 08:43:03 PM »
Is there a specific technique to jumping forward over a gap onto an object the same height as your starting point?

if your running, you want to throw your non jumping leg up HARD and your arms up HARD those two things + whatever power you have + how fast your running + how well you can block = :)

look at the frame right as i leave the block. my knee is high my arms are up... anything you can do to generate energy, will make you fly farther, but obviously we all have different physical limits but thats the easiest way to maximize what you got.

(1) Make sure you can do it without a gap.
(2) Work up to it, if need be, to get the mental fortitude.
(3) Make sure you know the technique of in a saut de bras very well, in case you miss it.
(4) Commit!

that sounds like something i should ask about. is that some way to prevent smashing your shins on a ledge?

A saut de bras is a cat leap... it would be to stop yourself from falling quite a few feet to the ground between whatever two things you're jumping between. As in, you underbalance and fall, but you might be able to catch the wall and be in the cat leap/saut de bras position. That's what you meant, Patrick, right?
