Exciting News from COPK - APEX Movement
« on: February 07, 2009, 04:56:01 PM »
After 2.5 years of teaching parkour and fitness in Colorado, we are excited to announce the opening of the world's largest parkour gym. The 5000 square foot facility will be opening in downtown Denver next month. We are currently hard at work making the gym awesome. As a community project, we are open to any and all ideas, help, and support for the new gym. So post up your thoughts and ideas (or email us at coloradoparkour@gmail.com); what would you want in a parkour gym? Have fun, be creative, and be a part of the APEX Movement.  8)

If its at all possible to score some of those jiu jitsu mega floor mats that would be killer to have around.

Chris - we probably wont have any wrestling mat flooring to begin with. However, we will have a gymnastics spring floor (not the shittier gymnastics foam block floor, like at CATS).

Just to throw some ideas out there:

Climbing wall (The rock climbing kind)

Foam pits are always fun :)

Vault blocks
Balance beams
High bar/low bar beam thingy

Some exercise equipment? Barbells dumbbells etc...

Ropes to climb up

I love quality spring floors. The potential here could be pretty epic. An accomplishment to say the least.

We will have a foam pit, if not when we open, then soon after. The goal is to outfit the pit with a high bar, "urban diving" platforms, and a runway from the spring floor.

We will have plenty of vaults, exercise equipment (there will be a small CrossFit program), and ropes as well.

Not sure about a rock wall yet. We want to have something but I'm not sure how extensive its going to be right away. But we will have plenty of rings, pull up bars, campus boards, dyno grips, etc.

seriously man, this sounds really awesome! thanks for putting in all the time and money to make this happen. we're lucky to have such influential traceurs here in CO. anything i can do in terms of setting it up, let me know. i'm stoked to have a parkour friendly gym right in denver.

also make sure to get the kind of mats that can be easily propped up or stuck to the wall for wall tricks. i've been to a couple gyms that are lacking in that area.

thanks again.

peace

Your gym requires a 15 foot by 15 foot foam pit with a 1 story drop above it.
If I can't speed vault it I can monkey vault it.
If I can't monkey vault it I can kong it.
If I can't kong it I can kash it.
If I can't kash it I can climb it.
If I can't climb it there's another way around it.

We will have brick walls next to the spring floor for a natural progression of wall tricks. We have an awesome 10 ft. tall incline mat for against the wall to start out on. We will also have some other mats for use against the wall. After you get your tricks down on there, you will be able to do them against the brick wall in prep for outside.

Thanks for the help offers Dylan and Jake. Can you guys email me your phone # and we can be in touch to get you guys involved?

foam pit will probably be just a tad bigger than that. ceilings are 22 ft. tall.  :)

In that case I must inform you that your gym is full of win.

OH YES! This just made my night boys! When is opening night? What are the days and hours going to be?

Suggestions:
*strong wedge mat for wall trick training
*lots of rail precision trainers with height variations. Maybe some permanent ones for Kong-Precisions etc.
*Foam covered ledges and rails for precision work, etc. (example, sideflip precisions...)
*vault blocks that won't F you up if no one is holding them down

But just some suggestions. I'm simply happy for this project to take off.
That's mah name!
Denver Family. Word Up.
