Railspring (Overhand/Underhand)
« on: November 16, 2005, 03:10:20 PM »
-Railspring/ Railspring Vault:  A vault in which a front handspring is executed over the rail being vaulted with the hands placed atop said rail.
(Railspring Differentiation):

-Overhand:  Rail is gripped with the hands in an palms down, overhand position directly atop the rail.  This style is faster, and more easily supported than the Underhand variation.  It is used predominantly on level or minor-drop vaulting conditions in which horizontal efficiency is the goal; this is also generally the easiest and safest of the two styles of railsprings.

-Underhand:  Rail is gripped in a slightly underhand position with the palms facing upwards.  The body is supported slightly with the elbows resting against the abdominal chest area.  This style is slower and more technical than the Overhand variation, thus making it useful for vaults which feature higher drops in which the desired path of motion is more vertically directed, thus demanding a slower rotation speed so as not to over-rotate upon landing.  When performed this style allows more easily for a delayed period at the apex of the rotation and a better line of site by which to survey the pending drop/landing.
