Fitness Certification
« on: May 27, 2006, 10:22:44 AM »
I'm trying to get into the fitness world... basically as an attempt to improve myself and secure a position abroad... So I was wondering, are anyove you Fitness Certified? Either as personal trainers or strength coaches or diet counselors? And what are the best companies/programs to be certified through? Since I dont believe there is a standardization in any CFT Program.

Thanks alot,
Andrew

I am currently certified through Crossfit (http://www.crossfit.com) and should be recieving my exam results for my ACE examination within the next week (http://www.acefitness.org)

Crossfit is more practical as far as actual fitness info goes, but ACE is nationally recognized and independently acredited. If you have a bechelors degree, I'd also check out the NSCA (https://www.nsca-lift.org/)

Yeah I was looking at ACE. Heard anything good or bad about ISSA? (www.issaonline.com) I'm just looking for something thats going to be internationally recognized but in the form of a 6 month or so course instead of a degree program.

I got my certfication through NSCA and did their CPT program. You study at your own pace and then take the test when you're ready. Tons of information, and they have things called "CEU" which are Continuing Education Credits. There are certain functions and seminars and stuff like that you have to go to per year in order to maintain your certification. It's great and very, very widely accepted. ACE is a very good program as well and I put it on the same level as NSCA. ISSA is pretty much a joke.

Gear: You use kettelbells at all? lol. I'm addicted!
