flip height issues
« on: February 01, 2009, 10:39:07 AM »
ok so i know that im supposed to wait till the height before i flip, but i have a lot of trouble actually doing it. i always flip too soon no matter what kind of flip im trying to do. i was wondering if there were any drills or exercises that could help me get the feel of flipping at the height of my jump or if i just have to keep trying it until i figure it out on my own.

PS i have no gym access at all

One thing that might help is to just jump straight up and tuck REALLY fast and REALLY tight at the apex of your jump (without flipping) and untuck immediately so you can land.  Basically a rocket jump with a tuck added in.  Focus on jumping high, and tucking quickly.  These are the 2 things that a back tuck and front tuck rely mostly upon.

You just need to gain an air sense!  Practice on a trampoline, or in a foam pit, or on crash pads...somewhere where you can just throw 1000 flips and not worry about hurting yourself.  The more you do it, the more muscle memory will set in, and the more natural they will become.

Look up.
Don't look down mid-flip.
It's that simple.
What if you fail?
I won't.
