Yamakasi
« on: May 23, 2006, 09:08:58 PM »
I just got Yamakasi (www.imdb.com/title/tt0267129/)  (found it on ebay)  It's got some pretty good stuff in it, although it is not subtitled, and I don't parle francais.  I think that these guys were disciples of David Belle, but I'm not sure.  Anyone else have any info?

Some of them were training partners of Belle and Foucan in the beginning. However, a conflict of interests seperated them and the Yamakasi began to practice their own Yamakasi, which is basically the same as freerunning.

I think l'art du deplacement is very similar to freerunning, but it does have stark differences.  The Yamakasi seem to emphasize looking at the environment in different ways and approach movement with creativity and originality, but it does not stress showmanship like freerunning does.  Flips are a part of l'art du deplacement as another means of movement whereas in freerunning, there is less philosophy behind every movement.

I was about to say that Animus. As far as i know L'art du deplacment is "Freedom of movement". It's not parkour because they don't believe in only making necessary moves. They believe in doing fast flowing, intresting, creative moves. It's quite nice to watch, but no use and not quite as fun (IMO) as PK.

Hell yeah. Yamikasi was a great movie. I just watched most of it, got it on dvd. Mine is subtitled in English though, I wonder why yours isn't.

Uhm .. like we don't condone pirating software, movies, or music.

I'll be very clear about this: Mention stealing of that fashion on here again and you'll be banned, permanently.
