The APK Cookbook Project
« on: January 21, 2009, 07:23:31 PM »
Based off of feedback from this thread, I figured I'd start a new thread for this project to be coordinated.

I have wanted to do something like this for a long time and it now seems there is a demand for it. I would be happy to coordinate putting this together and I would like for it to be sold in the APK store, with proceeds going towards APK, and a percentage going towards a good cause that we (all the members of APK, not just those directly involved with making the cookbook) choose.

In other words, if you are involved in this project you will be putting in time and effort for something, with very little return save for some "internet fame" and a credit in the cookbook. All the money goes to APK and our chosen charity/cause.

Just so you know ahead of time. :)

Also, I do want everyone to know that until I finish my National Boards I won't be able to start on this project. The deadline for my Boards is March 31, and then I have some exams to take in May or June. But for now feel free to float your ideas around; I have a rough timeline in mind for the project so we should be able to get rolling once my Boards are done.

This is going to be really fun!

As I mentioned in the other thread, I would love to help out APK and the Parkour community any way I can. And I can do that by Testing and photographing the food :D.
If you sent me a list of recipes, I would be more than happy to make them, Photograph them, Eat them, rate them, and then Train.
If there is anything else I can do, please let me know

This is great!  I was just thinking the other day that I'd like to see something like a traceur's cookbook, especially now that I need to cook for myself :P, then I finally got back in here and saw this and the Recipes thread.  I'm definitely looking forward to seeing this realized, I'll see what I can do to contribute later today.

I know one dish I've always thoroughly enjoyed, but it may not be THE most healthy, but sure covers most all the bases, is cheap, super quick/easy to fix, and is soooooo friggin good.

You will need:
One can of Castlebury's or comparable beefstew (the stuff with meat, potaotes, carrots, and peas)
One package of Velveeta shells and cheese (I have tried others, but nothing comes close to the goodness of Velveeta)
One hungry appetite (Try not to gorge yourself, because this dish is reeeeally good)
One hour to let it all digest (this dish is a bit on the "heavy" side)

Fix each item individually. Place serving of shells and cheese on plate. Smother that with the beef stew. VOILA! Bon Appetite!
If you like you can separate each item on the plate, but it taste eaten all together...plus it all ends up in the same place anyways, yaha!

If you don't like this...no need to flame me for it. Just trying to help contribute.

FYI, I am starting on the cookbook. Currently I am writing copy and working on layout of the text. I am pulling recipes from the Recipe thread and from my own collection. Chris Salvato & I are collaborating on the nutritional information and recipe selection. My husband is happy to be the test recipe taster. :P I am enjoying all the fun cooking.

Once I have something with a rough layout, and copy written, I will do some food styling/photo shoots and then I will need someone to handle layout. This person MUST be:

1. Proficient in Photoshop.
2. Able to meet deadlines.
3. Able to collaborate positively with me.

Let me know if this is you.

After the layout is done, we will do final editing and finalize the project for printing & binding.

Once it is printed/bound (or set up to do so), we will choose our charity, and it should be set to sell on the APK main page. I am hoping to have it all done by December of this year; just in time for holiday gift-giving! :)

Thanks for your offer to help, SkyFi! I'm not sure what those programs are; I'm going to stick to Photoshop because it will make the printing/publication of the cookbook easier (based on the arrangement we have). But I agree, you're definitely a positive person. :)

Update:
I currently have about 80 recipes compiled; I hope to put together about 20 or so more. Chris will start on the nutritional analysis as soon as I can get the recipes to him. Test cooking and photography to happen in August. Layout/design/final editing to happen in September/October.

The goal is to have it ready to go by mid to late November. :D

Alright cool.
BTW if you want a sample of my "art" I can put them up.

Pain.net  and gimp are free photo edit/munipulation programs. paint.net is like a watered down photoshop, and gimp is a complicated beast.

Oh crap I was hoping people would have forgotten about this. ;)

Um... yeah. So... I'm pushing back the deadline.

>.>

<.<

I have no excuse, just a lame reason: procrastination. It will happen, eventually. I'm glad to see there is still interest. If you have other suggestions/recipes/etc, post them here. Well, post recipes in the recipe thread, but yeah.

I offer my sincerest apologies for the delay.
