stall vault
« on: November 16, 2005, 12:29:42 PM »
this vault is done like in breakdancing the stall is a freeze motion after a big motion.  so instead of a vault you stop in a planche or a handstand, whatever your pleasure. then after a pause continue the motion like it didn't happen.

im still not completely sure if this is the place to make up as many vaults as you can and post them. stuff like a stall vault doesnt seem relevant, no matter what it is you practice. i think were looking for known moves and definitions... less clutter that way  ;)

Yeah, the concept of a stall vault just seems silly. I think the idea is to use this feature to post up the definitions of moves that exist for an actual purpose, not to post up whatever move we might have decided to make up that day ;)

im not ripping on the actual vault. it sounds fun, but ive just never heard of these, ive never seen them done, and i dont think anyone else has either. i guess include a video the next time you make one up, that way if its not as known as a traditional vault, we will still know what youre talking about. ;)

It's not entirely non-existent. A few of the more gymnastically inclined among us Melburnians (well, only really one of us =P) on the rare occasion has done such a thing. Usually it's just a handstand. We didn't name it though, he just did it for fun because for ages he had an ankle injury and the only thing he could do was handstands. So one time he went and did like a handstand vault. Essentially how kannigasai described it to be done. I've never heard of it done other then him though, and we never bothered naming it, so meh. =/

If you were met with a surprise on the other side of your vault, a snake pit for example, then a stall might have considerable use.  Say you were being chased.  You want to keep your speed, but you fear a possible snake pit.  A vault that gives the option of a stall is worth considering.  No?
Parkour creates communities, not rivalries. Keep competition out of parkour.

But why give it a name? Everything does not need a name.

I think it could be a pretty cool move, but I don't really think it is parkour.  I mean the whole point is "to move fluidly throught the urban environment."  I could see how it applies to breakdancing though.

I just saw this done today and realized that it could be considered parkour I guess, but probably more of a style vault.  like  grabbing a rail in mid run, doing a handstand, hold ing it for a couple of secs then just dropping into a spin or a roll, or something else.  It really is pretty cool to see, but it's probably not what most of you are imagining it as.
