This is an example of why every move you might end up doing during a run doesn't necessarily need a name ;)

Perhaps lay off the post button for a minute or so, I'm sure there are terms that have an actual definition that need to be posted too.

I agree with gear. just because you are rolling over something instead of on the ground it is still the same motion just a different surface.... i mean we don't have a rail kong and a picnic tabele kong do we? no we just have kong ( or saut de chat if you prefer)..... no disrespect just elaborating on my opinion.

Interestingly enough, the name 'roll vault' is actually an oxymoron.
Vault: "To jump or leap over, especially with the aid of a support such as the hands or a pole."
Roll: "To move forward along a surface by revolving on an axis or by repeatedly turning over."

So, rolling is maintaining contact with the surface, whereas vaulting is going over the surface (except perhaps for some contact with the hands). Therefore, it makes no sense. =P

And what about getting to a four foot high planter, and rather than climbing over it, you reach forward with your hands and go into a roll to get on top, then stand and run? I'd call that a roll vault

I don't think you guys are getting it.
I've seen some of the Yamakasi do it. He does a climb up, but instead of ...what's the word.....placing his feet on the object, he just rolls on top of it. It's an extremely efficient way to move out of a climb up and requires less energy.
Whether you believe you can do it or you believe you can't; you're right.
