sideways vault
« on: November 16, 2005, 12:15:37 PM »
not a side vault/ the sideways vault is done completely sideways one hand or a one hand at a time.  run skip or stand into a sideays stance, with one hand propel yourself over an obstacle with your feet under you.  excellent for cartwheels r landings at 90 degree angles.

I don't understand. If your feet are under you, how do you do a cartwheel?

I'm pretty sure this is not a "make-up-a-new-trick" thread.

haha guys take it easy on him...he has an uber gymnast background. :P

anyway, this is actually a useful vault, but useful in very little situations.

its similar to a type of box jump in plyometrics where you try to completely jump over the box with a sideways jump. we found that with the aid of your hand, you can clear quite tall obstacles with it. i can get a video so you guys can see how its used...

I think the point that I'm getting at is this, the lexicon of Parkour isn't exactly every term that you may have created last week to describe what you do, instead, it is the terms that are relatively constant within the community and have gained a traditional usage. So, monkey vault-yes, sideways vault-no. This forum is meant to be a compendium of terms that make sense to a traceur, but wouldn't necessarily make sense to someone outside of our community :D
