Getting Distance on Monkey vault
« on: December 23, 2008, 09:47:07 PM »
i can monkey great over almost everything in my path but i dont seem to get much distance to precision onto things, i can monkey from a rail, to the lower bar on the rail or wall to wall with maybe a 1-2 foot distance but i wanna know how i can get my monkeys to go further as to maybe 5-6 foot in distance just wondering
There is no reason to have a plan B, cause all it does is distract from plan A

Have a go at learning a kong as they help get distance over the object and before.

Also try punching.

Will.

depending on what is on the other side of the thing you monkeying you could consider turning your monkey as you pass over to the other side, turning 180 to face the obstacle, and ending with a cat hang on the obstacle. Then from there you could do a cat to cat or cat to precision on the next obstacle. I hope that makes sense. I can't Kong yet so i have had to come up with some inventive ways of getting those long precisions.

It depends on your terminology.  You say you are good at kongs and want to improve the distance on your monkeys.  If we want to speak by "definitions" then a monkey can be a slightly awkward vault because you are putting your hands on the rail before jumping.  This drastically reduces your jump because instead of using your hands to correct your posture and give a slight extra push, you are using your hands as much as your feet to pull yourself through and push to give that extra distance.

With a kong, you run at your obstacle and dive into it (doesn't have to be a long dive, just enough to start to get your CoG (center of gravity) up into the air).  There is a little area of take off specific to you that will give you maximum distance after your vault.  Jump too close and you will crash into the obstacle.  Too far away, and your CoG is coming down before you even get over the obstacle.
