Abnormal abs
« on: December 21, 2008, 12:15:01 AM »
I started training for Parkour awhile ago.  When I started, I noticed that there is something strange about my abs.  Instead of all my ab muscles being even, there is a difference from the left and right sides.  The troughs in between each muscle are lower on my left side than on my right.  Is there something wrong with this?  I am dominantly right sided for everything except chewing, but I have been working on getting my left side stronger.  Is this a good way to counteract my odd ab growth pattern, or is there a better way?

its just genetics.  Many people's abs are uneven like yours.

Thanks, I was ever so slightly worried it might be a training problem.

Check out some pictures of bodybuilders and you'll see a lot of this. Perfectly normal.

My friend just had surgery to remove a bar in his chest.  Originally, the bar was put in there to pop out the cavity in his chest.  His ribs had been pressing against his heart and had had several mini-heart attacks.  You should probably have that checked out.

Hah, mine isn't nearly so serious.  I could post pics if you really cared. It basically just looks like a dent in my chest. I had it checked out about a year ago, doctor said that as long as I didnt notice any problems with my lungs (I dont, I have great lung capacity), its fine.

its called pectus excavatum. i have the opposite, pectus carinatum where my chest protrudes further. The only health problem i have is some asthma like symptoms, but im conditioned enough that it doesnt affect me

Me and my brother have the same thing. I have clinical asthma to start with, so I'm sure that hasn't helped things. Interestingly, it takes me back to the original topic of funny looking abs - they've always been one result of my pectus carinatum (along with my pectorals looking much less developed than they are).
