I think I shed a tear. You passed up steak for grapes? :( steak is along the lines of eggs. Solid fat and protein sources, with a good amount of cholestorel (don't think of it as bad. It has several beneficial functions, one of which is it being broken down into testosterone). Grapes are fruit and better than many food out there, but to pass up protein and fat for solely grapes isn't the best call. Don't sweat it, just remember next time. Also, avoid sauces as much as possible, same issue with the dressings.

At the school lunch, load down as many veggies as they'll let you get. Get a bang for your buck. Also, bring in a can of tuna if you can to mix in with the salad. If you leave a lot of the water in it when you mix it in, you can help fight the dryness of the veggies without turning to dressings.

Avoid the spaghetterz, all starch, and usually overloaded with tomato sauce.
Rice is the same problem, starch overdose.
Aim for something like grilled chicken, or the like. I work at McDonald's, so my choices are limited to chicken salads and milk. You have the benefit of working at a sitdown restaurant, so it's much more likely the quality if food is better.

What are the main options you have at your work?

One of my favorite things to do is take leftover steamed vegetables from the dinner the night before, and chop them tiny and scramble them into my egg.

I really like this tip!  Problem is, every time I steam extra veggies at night, I just wind up eating 'em all.  I mean, I guess I could say I should work on portion control, but I'm also trying to eat as much as possible.

I knew I should have ate the steak! :-\

Lol anyway, coinsidering I live in Northern Alabama, the restaurant I work in is not very sanitary, but for $7.00 bucks an hour, I can handle it! Anyway, usually their is like bbq sandwiches, fried fish, hushpuppies, shrimp, okra... ect... ect. The only main meal I eat their is a Cajun Chicken which is basically like a pure white meat chicken cooked on the grill. I know they put butter on it and spices on the top though.
Also their is lemon pepper chicken which is the same chicken. grilled as well, but it tastes more like a lime of some sort. Not sure what they put on it.

My work does have veggies I can steam with my meal though... maybe some grilled chicken with some veggies on the side?

The grilled chicken sounds good in general, with some steamed vegetables (try to avoid corn and especially potatoes if you can).
What fish do they serve?

Interesting use of the tinned tuna water.  I'll have to remember that one.

Eat lean steak, if you can.

As KC said, steamed (non-starchy) vegetables are very good.  Don't skimp on those portions.

One thing you could try is asking the cook to custom-make you something.  Back when I was working at Denny's, I did this betimes and the cook was always happy to comply.  This might be able to get you some tasty stuff at work like lemon pepper fish, shrimp salads, and so forth.

Dude mayo still grosses me out, and has since I was a kid.  The consistency, maybe.  When I get some time, I'll try making some homemade mayo and see if it's any better.

Though if at its most basic level it's just an emulsion of of egg yolks and oil, can't I just drown my scrambled eggs in EVOO and call it a day?

I figured. :P

It may be a significantly longer time if you are like me at not at sea level.  You are going to have to experiment with some times, usually, especially if you are at higher altitudes.

Hm, I was about to suggest salting your water to compensate for lower pressure, but some quick calculations indicate that the colligative effects wouldn't be nearly enough to do this.  In fact, salting water to raise the boiling point of water can be effectively labeled a myth, since it's insignificant.  Case in point: to adjust the boiling point of water in Colorado to 100ºC, you'd have to reach a salinity of about 20% (by mass); that is, add 250 g salt to every liter of water.  By comparison, seawater has a salinity of 3.5%.

Sorry Chris, I did not realize I was wasting everyone's time! Although, every time I try to click the sticky's on this site a "FATAL ERROR" appears.... so no idea :\. This includes that link ???

Anyway, we only have whole fish and fillet fish and they are all fried... so ya  ;)

Oh ya QMKC, I have been wanting to ask you your eating schedule and what you eat on a normal bases. Could you include that if you're at work as well? I would also like to hear other peoples if you have time... or until I can get this "FATAL ERROR" to stop working  :)

Also if somebody could AIM me, that could save a lot of time as well!

Er, im sorry!

I never meant to imply that you were wasting time!

I meant to just say that most of your questions won't exist if you read the article.  It shouldnt take you more than 10 minutes.

Since the link won't work, u can just find it in the diet forum under "Eating Right: How To Get Started"
