Role Models
« on: December 11, 2008, 09:29:56 PM »
I think a lot of us here have motivation issues (I know I do) and one of the ways I've found to force yourself to train diligently is to have a role model. Now, all the boys wanna be David and Sabastien, but girls need someone to look up to, too. I think it's even more important for us to know there are strong women in parkour who came before us, actually...
Anyway right now I'm really jealous of Kat of the Monos Urbanos group from Mexico.
Here are a couple videos in which she pwns obstacles just as good as any traceur:

My other role model, unrelated to parkour, is Anna Tsuchiya. She's the only chick rock I ever listen to, and in every video her hair is a different color or something. Listening to "Slap That Naughty Body" and "Lucy" just gets me fired up to vault rails.
Wish me luck!

For me, my parkour role models are all men. I greatly respect the Urban Freeflow guys. And I really look up to Sebastien because he embraces everything evolved around parkour, like most that practice it. And non-parkour role models, well I really look up to alot of musicians, especially the Blue Scholars, I love their music. I also look up to, the first woman 4 star General in the US Army. I don't have her name at the moment. And I look up to my soon to be fellow soldiers.

My parkour role models are Laurie Jennifer, Amanda, and Janine. Outside of parkour, I look up to my mom a lot--she's my hero! Also, the principal at the school where I used to teach, Paul Brost, is just an amazing individual. He embodies everything I think an educator should be. No other principal I will ever work for can even come close. I'm really sad I'm not at his school any more. :(

as though there were some obstacle in the way;
and yet: as though, once it was overcome,
she would be beyond all walking, and would fly.

My role model in life at the moment is two people; Jordan Leen and Adam Frey.

Jordan is the reigning NCAA Wrestling champion at 157. He's scary, intimidating, a beast on the mat, but the nicest, kindest guy off it. He's always willing to stop and talk to me or help me with a move at club. One guy from the tiny little town of Soddy Daisy, Tenn made it all the way to Ithaca to don to coveted Cornell singlet.

Adam is also a Cornell wrestler. He has earned several all-american honors. However, right now he is fighting testicular cancer. His chemothereapy is the WORST kind that only a few people have gone through. He might not ever wrestle again, but during the early rounds of chemo, he still WAS wrestling AND lifting weights. If that's not will power, then I don't know what is. www.adamfrey.us
