Torn Meniscus in left knee
« on: November 03, 2008, 08:41:22 PM »
Date of Injury: October 10, 2008

Time of injury: ~21:00
DOB and age: 11/20/1982
Name: Moses
City, State: Chicago, IL
# years practicing Parkour / Freerunning: ~3 1/2
Hours of training per week: 12

Other exercise / fitness experience:
some gymnastics, cross country, breakdancing, swimming

Location where injury occurred: my kitchen
Conditions of location: dry tile
What you were doing / trying to do when injury occurred: I was making rice

Were any other people involved:
Nope, I was alone. This proved to be my downfall.

Part of body  - description of injury, rating of severity 1-10.
Left knee. Blacked out from the pain so maybe a 2. (yeah im that badass.)  really? i would say 12.

Did you see a doctor for diagnosis? Yes. General Practicioner and an Orthopedist
Did you get X-rays or MRI's? I got x-rays, waiting for my MRI

Could you / how could you have avoided the injury?
I could have gone to the doctor back in high school when I micro-tore it in the first place.

Date / type / severity of your last injury? I hairline fractured my ankle about 2 years ago.

Notes on the experience?

Take care of yourself. Seriously. By the time I learned about proper fitness and flexibility, I was already hurt. I just didnt know it. Don't ignore little things that go wrong. Even if you can walk and everything seems okay, get checked out.  Even when my knee started locking up on me about 3 years ago, when it unlocked, everything was fine, so I just went about my business. I am now 25 and it got bad enough by this time that it failed on its own. Now I possibly need surgery and my recovery time is going to be in months, not in weeks.

Hopefully when all this is done I can get back to training. Hopefully my knee will heal well enough that I can use it like I want to. Hopefully.

OW!
I feel your pain...I just had surgery on my left knee for the same thing.
I don't know if this will help: the surgery was out patient and not too bad. No crutches or brace. The tear was pretty bad so the swelling has been a pain. I start PT tomorrow AM. Can't wait because I am soooo tired of not moving. Good luck and take care. It will be an easier rehab the sooner you take care of it. The longer you take, the worse the wear and tear.

GOOD LUCK!!
Lisa
