Dexter T's Training Log
« on: October 26, 2008, 11:09:09 PM »
This log is my way to keep myself motivated but any advice/criticism is welcome.

Okay so to start off I would like to mention that today's eating choices were a train wreck and not at all standard.

breakfast
2 bowls of cereal in 2% milk....Tons of sugar :-[

Lunch
Smoothie.. 1 cup 2% milk, 1 banana, 2 raw eggs

dinner
One tendercrisp sandwich from work (Burger King) and like 8 chicken nuggets....Plus like four glasses of soda....I am ashamed

Training
about fifteen minutes of working on strait vaults lazy vaults and flow...Nine hour shift so I didn't do much.

Goals
Ten pull-ups (Only capable of 1 full ROM chin up now.)
Run a mile in under eight minutes (Never run a full mile without a break much less timed myself)
50 consecutive pushups (Capable of 25 now}
Lose 15 pounds of fat (Body weight scale says I am at 18% percent body fat and 28.4 pounds over weight.)
Gain five pounds of muscle (not sure how to calculate what I am at now. I weigh 210 lbs.)
Kong a pick nick table. (Have yet to kong anything but I feel I am very close to getting it down.)
Learn to underbar (It scares the crap out of me as is.)

are you sure this is an accurate account of what you've eaten? I mean, it's like feeding a bird really. I've eaten more than you had in a day just in one setting. It was delicious....and I regret nothing!

Okay so due to work schedule and the winter months (in Michigan) I have been slacking. I am trying to get back on track now. Diet is sub par at the moment however it is getting back on track. I have signed up for tumbling classes which after today (First Class) I am confident will help me stay motivated.

Todays workout was and hour long tumbling class which consisted of fifteen minutes of handstand practice(able to hold for about five seconds as is) fifteen minutes of cartwheel work (need to keep legs strait) Ten minutes on the trampoline (Not sure how thats spelled) and three backflip attemts while in a harness...Don't even know where to start with all the things that went wrong there. I managed to only land on my face once. And the rest was jumping off a spring board into a forward roll on this big mat thing as a beginning of a progression for a front flip....Which I am told I will be beginning to work on next week.

Todays food consisted of a tendergrill sandwich with three chickenfrys and three pieces of cheese. Three glasses of soda and a shake. It is decided I am not allowed to  eat at work. Bad idea.

So my rings are due in tomorrow. Mondays gym session was pretty fun worked some handstands and cartwheels but had to stop due to my wrist still being sore from the week before. Did a few frontflips into the pit. I feel the frontflip is more natural to me then the back but I can't say for sure as I am still new to both. Either way flips are fun.   ;D

Went to open gym today. I was a bit sick but I worked frontflips alot. I need to stay tucked longer keep my back straiter and relearn where to position my arms (I was pretty much jumping into the fetal position today). I did a few practice runs of front handsprings over the roll pad thing. They felt much better and my kick seems to be much harder giving me much more momentum today. All and all not a bad day considering I had a cold.

So I havent posted in a while because I was lacking internet. I worked on frontflips today. I think I will be  able to land a few onto a pad in the pit on wednesday and hopefully on the trampaline strip thing (Not sure  what its called) within a month. I am hoping to have a solid enough frontflip to land it on grass by the end of summer. Also new goal; One HSPU. I am still working on the pullups. I have let fitness goals go recently because I started getting a lot of hours at work. I plan to fix that. So pullup here I come. Think I am going to start Grease the groove tomorrow.

Did you ever get those rings?  If you did, I highly suggest including a regimented ring training workout at least a few times a week.  Jimmy has been doing the Coach Summers workout from Gymnastic Bodies, and he's had some great results.  I've also been doing a lot of ring work, and it's probably the most useful thing I've ever bought.  Also, how are your other goals coming?  It looks like you've been focusing a lot on your tumbling, which is good, but I still think that learning vaults will probably be more useful during the summer.  You know how I feel about tricking...  Anyways, I'm just happy to see that you're still training.  Think you'll be able to keep up with Shamas and me by the time summer comes around?

I havent really been working to much on anything other then tumbling I am getting thirty plus hours a week at work. I got the rings however I am lacking a place to put  them. Think I am gonna hang them at the playground by shames house until I have a better place. I haven't been working to much on vaults because of the reasons already stated. I am pretty sure I can kong if I put my mind to it and also I did underbar so thats off my list. I need to start doing rolls because I have been slacking and the last one I tried failed miserably. My handstands were getting solid but I develeped a block for some reason my left leg doesnt want to straiten. It was fine until recently. I also have been focusing alot on tumbling just because I felt the place that needed the most improvment was my coordination and self confidence..

Time management sucks now a days, but I'm glad to see you're still at it. Good Job so far.

I would advocate setting some fitness goals as well. It feels good to cross things off a list. Tiny accomplishments create a snowball effect of achievments. I just revised mine.
