Quote
After that Jam on Sunday we made up came up with a game that we called "Predator and Pray"

It is very easy, a lot of fun and helpful to improve sensitivity, breathing and increase coordination.

It is very simple, there is only one Pray but as many Predators, there predators job is to stalk to the pray until captured. The catch is, the predators are blind, the pray is not.

In a low stance position or QM the hunters listen for the predators moves as he maneuver and sneaks around as he please. Some times mocking them or tricking them by intentionally making noise to dissuade the hunters from the Prays location. A snap of the fingers, stumps, heavy foot steps are used by the Pray to give real or fake clues of his location, while the hunter follow the sound as they stalk.

Some Prays like to play with the Predators by sitting still in between then while controlling their intense breathing.

The main idea is to have the Pray weave around and in between the predators as silently as he/she can in order to not be detected. The Predators are to stay as silence as they can and work as a team to capture the Pray based on the clues.

As the game intensifies, the Pray gets most of the workout, as it tries to skillful and silently move through the Predators undetected. The Predators usually get a heavy breathing due to the workout after a few minutes, asking for another skill set to be use. Controlled and Rhythmic Breathing. This allows you to train your breathing to be calm even after strenuous work..

We went for laps of about 10 minutes of "hunt", everyone was a Predator, everyone was a Pray.
I would specify the feeling and how it is that it helps, but I will let you discover that for yourself.

Another exercise we did, was to line up about 2 to 3 feet apart. Then the first person would (with closed eyes) weave in between each person in a zig zag direction while keeping a low stance and feeling their surroundings only with forearms. The line member could raise their to the sides to make sure the person is keeping a low stance. We did this, backwards and forward.

i caught this from Ozzi, sonds like a good thing to do at this jam

I got a message from Gio and there's mixed news: First, he wants to bring the crew from STL. Second, his opinion of HaHa Tonka is basically that it sucks. He would like us to come to STL instead.

I haven't gotten back to him yet, because I wanted to let you guys know. I think a STL jam would be awesome, but at this point I was actually looking forward more to the nature bit. There's k ton of other close by possibilities (nature wise) to HaHa that if it is lame, we can always explore. Also, I'm not sure about driving all the way to STL. This is only my opinion. I would like to hear everyone else's as well. This is a collective thing. What are your thoughts?

Oh, and I like the idea of Ozzi's games. Good stuff.

STL would be great! but thats just cuz i live 20 minutes from the city =]. if HaHaTonka is the decision i wont be able to make it... im 18, working at Target, and just got a ticket so im broke...
I always face north, therefore I have no guides other than my body and mind. By always facing north I am always moving forward and up, regardless of the obstacle in my path.

Unfortunately, my income doesn't allow for too much of an excursion on such short notice. I can probably do Ha Ha Tonka, but I probably can't do St. Louis at the moment, and I'd rather not tap my parents for a loan right now. The three biggest (and presumably best for parkour) cities in Missouri are on different ends of the state, and if we want to do something that doesn't take place in a middle point, we should probably have more planning time. I'd love to go to St. Louis, but I don't have the resources at the moment unless it comes with a gratis floor to sleep on.

I'm looking forward to this and will go to any lengths to attend. Eli, I'll see you in about 36 hours, and I'll see what I can do to help make this work.

so maybe keep st louis on the near future "to do" list, but not this time? their offer to host is incredible and generous; i would love to take them up on it, but not so soon.

damnedscholar, i hope you can make it! and your help is really appreciated.

could we get a head count? hotels may offer group discounts.

From Springfield (I'm not counting those that are already on the forums like Dusty and damnedscholar), we have 5 definite yes (including myself), and 5 maybes so far.  By Saturday I should have a much more definite head count.

Awesome.  Thanks, Eli!  From KC, it's roughly 2 "most likely" and 2 "maybes"s (myself not included).  I also should have a better idea by Saturday.  Friday afternoons is the weekly gym session for the Riverside crew and I'm guessing Aaron will have a better idea of how many are coming after tonight.

I'm really looking forward to this!  I'll call the hotels on Monday with guesstimates and ask about group rates.  Maybe we can get some sweet dealz.  :)

And what would you guys think of incorporating some of the "leave no trace initiative?"  And in what capacity?

**EDIT**

Would this be a rough draft of the schedule?:

-The basic plan as I understand it would be to arrive by 10am (which means leaving @ 7am for the KC and STL crews), check in, and JAM ALL DAYZ! BBQ that night, crash in our rooms, some more jammin' Sunday morning after we check out, and then head home around noon. Sound good?

Oh, and I shot an email to Gio thanking him for his offer and letting him know we hope we can take him up on it in the near future, but that we still are looking at HaHa Tonka for this jam, both to enjoy the outdoors (pretty fall colors! ::) ) and to save on dough.  I also let him know it would still be great if his crew could come.

Yes, and I don't know exactly.  Maybe we could just not even make a big deal of it, and pick up all the trash we see wherever we go?  Trash bags wouldn't be hard to carry around.

Sounds great!  I'll figure out what time us Springfield folks will need to leave in order to get there by 10.

As far as rides are concerned, I have a car that will fit four people, and I know of some other people who have vehicles.  I'm sure we can get enough space, so that shouldn't be a huge problem.

Trash bags are a great idea.  I can bring a roll, no problem.  I live right by a Dollar General. ::)

I also updated the first post with general info.

I think that parking garage by Founder's would be the best place to meet up.

Yeah, the one I met you at, Dusty.  It's the one just south of the United Way building.

Google Earth says the trip to Ha Ha Tonka will take 1 hour and 40 minutes from Springfield.  I think we ought to be leaving the parking garage by 8:00, so let's meet at 7:30.

He seemed like a pretty cool guy, your grandfather. Let us hope your parents trust his opinion.
