halloween jam?
« on: October 23, 2008, 12:02:16 PM »
anyone up for a halloween weekend jam? in KC? springfield? colombia?

or maybe someone knows of a sweet state park? fall is pretty and would make for some sweet nature parkour.

**EDITED FOR INFO**

When?  November 8th and 9th.

Where? HaHa Tonka State Park.

Accommodations?  Packing it in in a nearby hotel or motel.  Will be either $15/person or $25/person, depending on if we want cushy or cheap.

Cost?  Gas (figure on your own), $15-$25 for room, and you're in charge of your own food.  Bring money, or pack food, or both.  Also, bring a little cash to pitch in for a BBQ-- like $5.  Hotdogs are cheap.

Basic Schedule?
arrive by 10am (which means leaving @ 7am-ish for the KC and STL crews), check in, and JAM ALL DAYZ! BBQ that night, crash in our rooms, some more jammin' Sunday morning after we check out, and then head home around noon. Sound good?

Other Pertinent Info:  Try to RSVP with your local crew to arrange travel and get a head count as soon as possible.  Kansas City can contact me or Aaron.  Springfield can contact Eli.  St. Louis can contact Gio.

i totally am up for one, seeing as missouri forums have almost but died, and i dont know what times, if any times the weekly jams are, i want to get out and train haha, so im up for a jam, and a state park jam would be awsome, somewhere decently close to springfield would be nice, seeing as how i would need to be dropped off

yeah, transportation's a problem for me, too.  i'll probably rent a car if a carpool from KC can't be arranged.  let's search the net for local state parks that look promising.  should we pool for a bbq, too?  some sort of cookout would be great, if it's not too cold.

Because the MO forums have been "dead" for so long, I'm not sure who checks them very often anymore.  I'm going to PM everyone who's ever posted here and let them know and ask for their input in this idea.  I do know some traceurs in this area.  I also have some friends who are interested in parkour, but are not involved with APK.  I will shoot them an email as well.

Should we brave the cold and see about camping at the park (if it's allowed this late in the year)?  Or should we crash somewhere else (is your house available?) and commute?

the closest state park is about and hour and a half from springfield.  it looks sweet (and camping is only $9/night), but you would definitely need transportation.

perhaps we need other ideas on the table.

The state park stuff sounds awesome.  Which park is 1.5 hours from Springfield?

Also Dusty, I remember seeing you at one of the Springfield Weekly jams a few months ago.  We've been meeting at Founder's every Saturday at 11 since then, and I guess you've just been missing us!  We get about 5-10 people there every week, so I think it's pretty successful.  Hopefully we'll see you there this Saturday!

Stockton State Park.  A quick google search should do.

It's in between KC and Springfield, so it seems a good "middle ground," at least for our two communities.  I'll do my best to see about who from here is interested in going.  Of course, we'll need tents if we do decide to camp.  Or, there are lodging facilities available at Stockton State Park, but of course that's a bit more money.  However, if we're going to be jammin', we might like a break from the cold and a little better sleep.  I can call them tomorrow and ask what our options are.

How many do you think would be able to make it from Springfield?  I'll try to get similar numbers from KC.

I'm originally from Bolivar, which is about 15 miles east of Stockton.  I don't know that the Stockton State Park would be the best location for a jam, but I may be wrong.  I'll do some searching tonight and figure out if there isn't a better one that would be convenient for everybody.

IF we do decide on Stockton, and IF there aren't a huge amount of people, I'm sure my parents wouldn't mind hosting a few people in Bolivar.  I've had at least 10 of my guy friends spend the night in that house, so I know we could handle it, but I'm positive my parents couldn't feed that many people.  Luckily there are restaurants in the area.

Actually, Bolivar wouldn't be a horrible place for a jam.  I'll think about stuff that's in the surrounding country for when I post later tonight as well.

Many excellent and gracious ideas, Eli!  Good luck with your research, and I look forward to seeing your results.  In the mean time, I'll message my friends here in KC about this, and post it on the KCparkour website.

it's seeming like the following weekend AFTER halloween would work best?  nov. 8 and 9?  that gives us more time to rally more troops.  and it would excuse the many who i'm sure have already made plans for halloween weekend.

Eli, since you've been leading the Springfield weekly jam, would you be willing to do the honors of leading warm ups?

That sounds awesome, and there's a chance I could do a Nov. 8-9.  I'm not sure if I'm up to driving that far though.

i'm willing to drive/rent a car, if others can pitch in for gas.  luckily, gas is relatively cheap now that summer has ended.  dan, i'm talking to others in the KC area about carpooling.  we can always pick you up on the way.

Wow, that's right.  Being on the edge of the metro, it's weird to hear that I'm "on the way".
