PK Team
« on: October 05, 2008, 07:28:43 PM »
I was just wondering if anyone wanted to make a team around George Mason University, fairfax, oakton, chantilly

im a beginner, but if we get alot of people we could all train together and eventually become a team

ps i dont go to gmu,im not that old so it would be cool if teens come too lol

Good idea on getting together to train with people from around GMU, fairfax, etc. I'd love to train with you when I'm home! Try chatting with Animus or some other NoVA peeps.

We're all from different ages, most traceurs are in their late teens but we have everyone from 13 to 53+. I'm assuming from your post that you fall in the younger category, so don't worry about older traceurs we wont bite!!

And don't worry about 'forming a team', no teams are necessary, just find a group of people to train with and have fun  ;D

I guess i wanted to form a team to make it official so we would be more organized but at the end of the day we all want to play and have fun  :)

Let your 'team' be the Northern Virginia community.  :)  "Teams" give a very exclusive connotation, which is why there's been a movement away from them lately (it's part of a reason why the breaking community is so divided).  Don't worry, we'll be organised.  And have a blast to boot.  We're all sweet and friendly people.  :)

fine
u guys caught me...I just thought "team" sounded alot cooler and serious lol
hahaha

But a plus about starting a team is that people feel like they are a part of something, and a part of something big(i mean thats kinda how i feel).
We could emphesize that all levels of fitness, and experience are welcome, and that we are interested in a team learning experience as well as a social type of thing.

Besides I really want a cool team name like the ones the higher level team have lol

But one thing i think we should focus on is not ignoring the philosophy of parkour, especially once we get into freerunning and as a result, possibly tricking.

thanx for all the awsome advice and support btw :)

Oh, you guys are free to do whatever you like.  Don't worry about that, Jeni.  If you wanna start a team, feel free!  And I'll be glad to help you (and anyone else) along with your training.

I hope to see you on Thursday.  :)

Not everyone's gonna post online.  Lots of people don't use forums/don't like them.

You must've had a crappy experience with A group of people... probably one, immature group of people....that doesn't mean all groups are crappy  :-\  You can learn a lot from others and it's always fun to train with someone else!

teams tend to cause people to care more about their team than they do about the idea of whatever it is they were created around. one usually ends up getting really big and then corrupting things.

didn't mean to imply that training with other people is a bad thing.

That's basically what happened to the Richmond group i had going.  It got HUGE but then i had to sit out for 2 months and nobody else stepped up to lead, so when i came back, literally 3 out of the 30 we had coming out were still interested in parkour.
It sucked, but it was a decent learning experience.  Teams don't mean anything to me now.  The people are what matter.
