Themed Training - Nov 6th, 7:30PM, George Mason University
« on: September 29, 2008, 04:27:38 PM »
Themed Training Meets will take place on a weekly basis, unless otherwise noted, on Thursday nights between 7:30 and 10PM at GMU.  Meeting place will be in front of Robinson Hall A.

It is suggested, and almost required, to make sure you come FRESH each week for the themed meet. This means your Wednesday night should not be out drinking with your friends, doing heavy exercise or etc etc.  The training will be intensive enough to be both taxing for your body and your central nervous system.  Preparation should include waking up at a decent hour, getting a good night's rest, and eating small meals throughout the day to keep your energy levels up.

Nov 6th Theme:
Strength Conditioning

Contact Info:
571-451-47 80

How is this meet going to work?
We will start out with a warm-up and joint rotation.  The warm-up will vary each week, but likely have similar ideas each time, depending on the themed training that will follow.  After the warm-up, time will be given to rest before a more intensive conditioning segment approaches.  The conditioning will be light in nature, but enough to tax the body before any technical training.  The conditioning may or may not directly lead into the themed training.  After the conditioning, we will train the theme in various ways before resting again.  At this point, the day is opened up for "free play" and working on individual training.  All participants are free to continue themed training if desired.  At the end of the session, a brief ten minute group stretch is mandatory.

Themed training meets are intended to avoid the monotony of drilling individual techniques unless it offers focus on a greater, overarching goal.  They are also designed to properly build a foundation in Parkour.  The foundation is a strong body and the ability to run, climb, jump, and crawl.  Themed training focuses on developing movement, not techniques; Parkour, not a tricklist.

To get to GMU from the Metro:

"Metro Rail: You can take the Orange Line to Vienna Metro Station and then take the Cue Bus or Mason to Metro Shuttle to the Fairfax Campus."

Buses are:
Mason to Metro
Cue Bus
Metro Bus: 15K, 15L, 17A, 17G, 29K
Fairfax Connector: Route 306

From there, you can use a map to find your way to Robinson Hall A (pretty much dead center of campus)

It's open to everyone.  GMU is just a place where we can do this without causing problems with security.  :)

It shouldn't be so intense as to wipe the floor with you, and given that you rbody shoul dbe adapted to soccer by now, I'm sure you'll be fine.  Hope to see you this week.

Also, feel free to reach me by cell phone if you like.  5 71451478 0

Had a lot of fun with you at UVA this weekend, and would love to start coming to your trainings.  Not sure if I can do this week, but I will try, and if not, will start coming in weeks following.

I live in Woodbridge, and will be driving, so if anyone else is local, I could give rides.

If you think you'll need a ride, just PM or text me, my cell number is five71 242 920eight.

Part of this is why I gave my phone number.

It'll be in front of Robinson Hall B, today, I guess.  That's where the crazy little water fountain things are.  Shouldn't be hard to spot at all.  CALL if you get lost.

Again, that number is 571   4514780

(If it's unclear why I said this is why we use cell phones.. it's cause there was no gurantee I would've checked this before I left, especially considering I just woke up from a nap.)

Act; for the universe will never forget your movement, nor will it ever forgive your stillness.

Just for you, Jeni.  :p

Actually, this topic has come up a few times in the past few days, so I figure it'll be good for everyone to break down how much we use our lovely little hips in everything we do.

Ideally?  I'd say five.  But not everyone (i.e. no one) has time for that all the time.. At least three.  Five is excessive to begin with, anyhow, since your body doesn't even know yet how to get adequate rest in two days out of the week!

I'd qualify these training sessions as conditioning, as well, since there isn't going to be a day when we do this without SOME conditioning.

I should be there this week, do you mind if I bring a couple other guys with me?

They are new to Parkour, but like me have been wanting to get into it for some time.

Of course I don't mind!

It should be a good introduction, too, since the hips are so integral to most of our movements, it'll really just a breakdown of various movements into its base parts.
