KOAA TV would like to do a story on Parkour
« on: September 24, 2008, 01:31:32 PM »
Hey like I said in the subject KOAA TV Channles 5 and 30 are looking to do a story on parkour, so I've called em up and found what they are looking for, they would like to see some basics and some of the more free running side of it (flips, wall spins ect.) If anyone is able to help out let me know they would like to see a group of about 10 or more, one thing I brought up was the zombie jam thats coming up if we hold a bit of it in Colorado Springs they would love to get some shots of it. This will be great for the sport and is going to help show Colorado that we are here and how easy it is to get into it. If anyone has any ideas then plz let me know or if you are up for this let me know, my # is 719-260-5595 or just post here. Come on you guys this is f#cking awsome!!! ;D ;D ;D

don't you kind of feel like focusing on flipping is going to give them the wrong impression..?

I'd be more than happy to help in any way I can, though.

I'm not quite sure about all this.

Do you really want the first impression Colorado Springs media gets about Parkour is people jumping around things in costumes?

Not hating on your zombie jam, i just feel like this is going to be a poor representation of parkour for the first time in the COS area.  Parkour is a discipline, not a game.

A successful news spot should bring more people into the community and I am not sure this is the best approach.

In Boulder, the news spots really helped blow up the community.  Same thing in Oklahoma City, NYC, and pretty much everywhere else news spots started.

I personally think we should reschedule the news piece for another day where we can fully explain the discipline and how to safely practice and get started.

The approach should be a bit more serious than a bunch of kids running around and jumping in costumes - and people with more experience should be present.

BTW, How did you get in touch with KOAA, josh?

I am going to call/email her later today when I get home from work..

Never thought of it that way... but it seems that KOAA want to focus on free running instead of parkour (since they asked specifically about flips).

I'll have to agree with Chris on this. Let's get KOAA to do another jam. Maybe Sunday the 12 instead of the 19th, so that on the 19th we can still do the zombie jam... How bout it Josh?

Promoting freerunning on the news is a bad idea -- since its all parkour anyway...just all with a different spin.

The news is not a time for a freerunning vs. parkour debate -- especially when the community as a whole doesn't know anything about parkour...which is another reason we should stear clear of promoting high diving flips, roof gaps and the like.

A smaller, low-key jam would be better to promote the discipline with a few seasoned traceurs who understand how to train properly -- at both low and high impact...

BTW a good way to get them to focus on real parkour is to not flip around like trick monkeys just because people ask us to flip around for their shiny cameras.

Yes, yes yes!!! The Next Denver City Trek would be THE opportunity to do a thing like this. We have had people of all ages come to them every time.  Some kids in Middle School, High School, College and beyond...!!!  PLus this would give people the incentive to come to the Denver City Trek this October (it has to be on a Saturday, mind you).

So, M16Parkour, let's me and you collaborate on this, because I am the Guy who is hosting this next Denver City Trek, and I feel there could be no better way for KOAA T.V. to do this than to come and follow us around!!! Please write back on here... thanks man ;D

This is growing into a f#cking circus, in plain english.

It's a Colorado Springs news station...they are doing the story on Colorado Springs...does that make sense to anyone but me?

Zombie Jam = bad representation; Denver = nonsensical -- its a news station in the SPRINGS ffs...

Well we are all still Traceurs who share a common passion Chris... There is no need to be hostile. It is completely believable that you guys from the springs might train in Denver.  And as long as you represent the Parkour well, it doesn't matter where it is filmed. Parkour is Parkour, can be done and displayed anywhere man.  All hostilities being avoided, if they or you guys don't want to come down to Denver to film it, or if you feel you want to keep it local, then by all means keep it down there in the springs bro. It is up to them and you.

Chris I understand what you are saying and now that I think about it I'm starting to agree, but the denver thing like you said also is not the local bit we are looking for but lets start a colorado springs trek and maybe do that, or we keep it on the 19th same place and everything but we don't do the whole zombie thing we can cut it down a little and have people just not where costoms well we do the film and change it up and I agree with you flips = no no, we keep it start parkour and see if they still want it if they don't well oh well we still have fun.

lol im gonna put my piece in. i agree with chris, we should start with the basics act KOAA is someone new to the sport and you wanna help them get started, and build from there. they'll show whatever they wanna show but make the effort to do the right thing. if parkour starts to get a bad rep its gonna be harder to train without people like security interfering. the more they understand its not a trouble making sport but an actual discipline the more accepted it will become. plus all the people that could join in from seeing it.
