Attention Tricksters!
« on: November 14, 2005, 07:57:39 PM »
I figured I should make a post of this since I'm pretty sure that a ton of us here that practice parkour also tap into the world of tricking. Hopefully you all realize the distinction between the two arts (if tricking can be considered an art, I say it might as well be -- it's a nice mixture of Martial Arts and Gymnastics.)

Basically I wanted to post this up to see how many tricksters we got here, What your background is, and how you come about tricking!!!

As for me, I've done 10 years of Karate, a year of Ninjutsu, and some capoiera here and there. I got into tricking by watching a David Belle video, which lead me to thinking parkour was all about tricks -- so I reasearched and found Tricks Tutorials. From there I just picked everything up so fast, trained every single day, and now im a trickster master!!! (Yes yes, I know now the difference between pk and tricking... ahhh Mr. Belle amnd his confusing videos  ;))

Hopefully we can have some vids here of tricking -- just make sure you don't label it as parkour!!!!

Back in the day I was only really interested in MA (I mean, in general, that was ALL I did cept gaming and general net crappage). I dunno, I guess I just kinda found out about it when looking for fancy MA-related things such as kip ups and stuff. This was only like a year or two ago, and I used to be pretty unfit, so I could never do anything. I kinda fell out of it cause it was too hard, start of this year I found Parkour, and kinda got back into it. Can't do anything yet, though, but that's because the weather's been shit and stuff. I will eventually though, I swear it. =P

 >:( TRICKING IS NOT PARKOUR!!!  >:(

 ;D
lol. Just playing. I guess I fit pretty well into the "tricking" crowd. I've been going to a gymnastics class once a week for about 3 years, and I've learned a thing or two from that. Joe Eigo was really my first inspiration to try it out. I started doing that a few months before I heard of Parkour. Since then I combine them, trying to make my tricks very fluid. Cyril Raffaelli (holy cheese-its! I spelled it right 1st try!) is my main influence now, with Belle close after. I also do solely tricking and solely parkour at times, but not as often.

The thing I like about tricking is that progress is very visible. It is quite evident that you're continuously getting better. And, not to start a fight, FOR ME progress is not quite as evident in more traditional parkour movement after you reach a certain point. Although I know it IS there!

Ya, I kinda agree. It seems there's always more tricks you can learn, but there is a limit to how many various movements you can do in Parkour (there are always slight variations, but the difference is not quite as blatantly obvious as a frontflip and a double leg). It seems after a while it's really more about being able to do it first try, anywhere, without any problems, really quick and fluidly. Like, I'm comfortable with kongs. But can I do a perfect kong everywhere I come to on my first shot? Not likely.

I've been doing capoeira for a while now, good fun, I actually wasn't aware of how much tricking would be involved. I always end up using capo stuff when i do kung fu and kung fu in capo, makes for some very interesting play.

Been doing MA since for 16 years, gymnastics for 5 and parkour now since march just at the end of this summer did I start trying out some tricking manuevers. Haven't been able to learn much big yet still working on stuff like tornado kicks and 360 crescents but I haven't devoted much time to it either. Almost have my b-twist.

Hehe, I got into it about a year ago, because after watching motion 1.0 I thought aerials were considered to be a valid part of parkour (we were all noobs once ... :P).
Then through Sov I found trickstutorials  ;D

I've never made a distinction between parkour and tricking, really. Then again, I've never done anything particualy skilled in tricking either. I am experienced in systema and judo, neither of which helps to much.

Before my neck injury I was able to do backflips, wallflips, gainers, and frontflips. I stopped mid-rotation on a backflip and landed on my neck though, and I lost all confidence and havn't been able to do an unspotted backflip yet... though that will change after the snow goes away and I can get out onto the grass again. Unfortunately, my school doesnt have the proper mats or equipment for me to practice indoors. This doesnt bother me much, as I need to get back into shape before I start tricking again. I'm nowhere near the condition I was in when I was doing flips and giving advice on the Freeflow boards.

Me and a couple of friends have always been big time trickers but only when the situatoin suits us like on a trampoline or into a pool or into something soft, never really on a hard surface, but without thinking about it we got into parkour with no intentoin of tricking and yess it looks cool and we would love to try and land that cool standing backflip, we just seemed to find plenty of plesure in just moving efficiantly in our enviorments. And also dont think you can amaz someone only with flips, cause today one of my crew did a large monkey vault down a 6foot ledge to another ledge with a 10 foot drop or so in between and at a nice distance apart and he got complimented which was cool cause it was the first one we have got!! :P

I'm more into parkour but I do know some tricking things like aerials, backflips, frontflips, gainers, sideflips, butterfly twists, stuff like that, the basics. Maybe in a jam I will do a flip or two but top me they seem like a waste of time, (it's just my opinion so don't take it personal), I like to practice parkour. :)

I know what you mean, I feel like I'm the only one here without any previous training, but I hope to start doing Tai Chi soon.

I;m not that good at parkour yet to be able to do tricks. I just started about 1 1/2 weeks ago with my friend and we have come pretty far. We can do king-kong's and vaults and rolls and flips. I think that's pretty good for us. Were trying to practive though so we can get up there with everyone else who's good.

Gorilla. Capoeira is a brazillian martial art that was created by slaves that were kept in brazil. They used to fend off their masters. The reason it looks like a dance was that way they could pass it down to future generations with it looking like a harmless dance routine.

I've been interested in taking up Capoeira for a few years. But there aren't any academies in OK. Which sucks. There aren't even any site that have specific moves...None that I've found, anyhow.
