New: Just looking for some Info.

<Not sure if this is in the right spot, move if necessary, sorry>

I'm entirely new to the PK thing. I've seen alot about it, but never knew there was an organized base for it. I am 17 years old, 6'4", and built to be a lineman (american football) so I weight around 290. I have recently ...ahem...retired myself from football, and am beginning heavy cardio to undo what they did to me. Basically trying to burn lost of that body mass.
Just for reference, My weightlifting specs are below.

Anyway, my question, for PK, is it absolutely necessary to be (excuse me if this seems rude) stick skinny to begin learning basics, and basically, immersing into it, or should I wait like a year or so, and then begin PK? I am just hoping for some friendly input. If a picture would help in this decision, im sure i cna get one.

Specs:
Bench max - 265 lbs. / 120.45 kilos.
Squat - 390 lbs. / 177.27 kilos
Clean - 250 lbs / 113.64 kilos

Thanks a bunch, and I really admire you guys. Honestly.

You can start right now, just do so secure in the knowlege that your size will make impacts more severe, so you should start as small as you can stand. This is really the same as any beginner, as people underestimate the stress they put on their bodies off the jump. Do what you can at ground level, work balance and precision, work towards functional, relative strength, clean up your diet and your size will balance out to where it needs to be.

Feel free to post up or email me if you have any specific questions.

Take your time, good luck, and have fun! :D

I don't think it's much a problem.  I started not too long ago and my body's been conditioned through martial arts and rock climbing to be pretty large (especially for someone my height and being Asian) and it hasn't really presented a problem.

I actually did the same thing you did. I played football 3 yrs. in highschool and then quit for a number of reasons, a big one being I wanted to focus on parkour. I was a wide receiver, so obviously I was in a little bit of a different situation that you are in, but I found that the weightlifting I had done for football helped me a lot for strength in parkour. The compound lifts they stress in football are great for pretty much any sport. I would say your main focus to get in pk shape would just be conditioning because any extra weight you have just requires more strength and means more strain on your body while doing parkour.
