Freerunning + Rollerblades?
« on: August 09, 2008, 09:05:47 PM »
It may sound like a dumb and dangerous Idea... but is it possible?

I just got into Parkour, and I have rollerskating experience. I need opinions of combining the two before I become crazy/stupid enough to try it out.

i wont mind seeing a "blade kong" it even sounds sweet.
I always face north, therefore I have no guides other than my body and mind. By always facing north I am always moving forward and up, regardless of the obstacle in my path.

It is possible. but like you said, it's a dumb and dangerous idea :)

I wouldn't risk a lifetime's ability of parkour/freerunning for a crazy, momentary stunt that i think is dumb and dangerous in the first place.
Now, when the time comes that you no longer think it's dumb and dangerous, then please, please make youtube tutorials, like seriously.

You get what i mean? hehe. im not mocking you. i actually applaud the idea. it's just that, maybe it needs to wait, considering your hesitation...that's all.

I say go for it.
Put your blades on and see how you react to obstacles. As usual, be careful, start slow. Its not dumb or dangerous as long as you only do things that you know you can do.

I think it will be awkward at first, but has potential to be awesome.

Go for it. I wouldn't do a kong being that you have an extra 8 inches on your feet or so that would probably clip.
This post was based off of my personal gatherings. Enjoy:)

I had the same idea not to long ago but I'm not good enough at skating or parkour to try. I think it would be sick if you could pull a kong to fastslide of some other crazy shit like that. Obviously you would have to tweak some techniques for it to work, a traditional roll may be tricky with skates on. Best of luck man.

It sounds really cool, but are you able to jump very high with skates? Also, you can't precision jump with wheels on your feet, so that's no fun, and most likely no rolling, limited vaults... But like these other people have said, If you decide to try it, only do things that are easy for you, and good luck! ;)

It's been done before, there's a few cool techs in here http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=U9foITdYvqM

I've seen videos of guys doing tic-tacs over stuff but I can't seem to find any.

Seems fun to me, just be safe!

Yeah I was thinking something like that, because I do aggressive inline skating too, but it just seems so wrong and incompatible.  But then I saw those Soap Grind shoes...  Parkour moves with Aggressive Inline grinding  ::)

I'm not sure how well combining the two would be, but it does seem that the skills would transfer over to parkour pretty well. This is a vid of Mathieu Ledoux, amazing inline skater turned traceur, and hes really good.
“You do freerunning or parkour, I don’t know, but both are the same. Some people are worried about it, but they are people that don’t train for too long, people that…in terms of training, aren’t mature yet. […] One day I’d like to wake up, open my window, and everyones doing parkour." -Ali Shelton

check it. the little section about "free skating." sounds like someone has had the idea before. :D

and i think its an awesome idea. it might be difficult at first. . . but as we all should know basically anything is possible with training.

and i've thought of it before too, i've dabbled in aggressive skating. . . and i thought it would be cool. but i never tried vaulting anything because my skates weigh like 4 pounds. so that would be hard to work past.

Blade kong sounds more like your about to jump over a bench covered in swords!  That would be worth seeing!
