Parkour Playlist
« on: August 09, 2008, 07:10:03 PM »
Posted the same topic in the Parkour/Freerunning section, but it is interesting to see how the ladies' playlists differ from the men's  ;D

This is totally superficial  ;D  but im just wondering what's in your parkour/training music playlist?

This topic is primarily inspired by Ozzi's training videos where he sports an ipod (shuffle?) in 9 out of 10 videos (no, im not stalking you Ozzi, just watching your youtube videos). Also, i personally think that music is a great way to push yourself towards a specific goal as different music evokes different emotions and physical effects that could contribute to overall training.

It would be great to find out which artists, albums and songs keep you company while training. :)

I deleted this thread from the Parkour/Frerunning section, because i found this:

http://www.americanparkour.com/smf/index.php?topic=11281.0

which is in the Socialize section.

Still, it would be cool to know the music preference of the ladies  8)

Today, as i scoured through the similar thread from Socialization, i realized i needed to update my freakin ipod.

AND, it gave me one more BIG push to FINALLY get a shuffle (it is genius that they designed the new ones a clip ons, instead of like the old one which you hang around your neck.)

I'm adding Save Me by Remi Zero hahahaha it makes me feel the way Viva la Vida does...kinda.

Hannah- i've got a ton of the same songs as you, haha.

Just add a little RJA, and Rise Against. Then it's good :)

I listen to almost every kind of music, shying away from pop and misogynistic music, though not entirely.  So, as Alphie said, here are my "get-going" songs :)  (also, WEWT for the JBT Alphie)

"Spark" - Tori
"Wake up" - RATM (to be honest, the entire RATM discography has that affect for me)
"Nowhere kids" - Smile empty soul
"Mr. Self Destruct" - NIN (same deal as with RATM)
"The Corner" - Common
"Suicide" - Alec Empire
"Charlie big potato" - Skunk Anansie
"Bouncin' Back" - Mystikal  (guilty pleasure..  can't stand the guy otherwise)
"Gravel" - Ani DiFranco
"Battle ready" - Otep

my taste is... eclectic.  having a shuffle, i'll just load it on random and these are the sorts of groups that come up:

underoath, haste the day, queen, dean martin, LAGQ, coldplay, jars of clay, switchfoot, thin lizzy, the beach boys, the benjamin gate, beloved, beethoven, cheap trick, david crowder, frank sinatra, derek webb, john reuben (proof white, jewish boys can't rap... but they can make you smile), klank, lifehouse, melee, some random monks chanting (a description, not an actual title), plumb, skillet, smalltown poets, soeur sourire, TMBG, and so forth.

each genre and each song creates a very different sort of feel and approach to training...

HAHAHA, I'd love hear a band called "some random monks chanting."  Especially if their music was something totally different, like Ska.

I rarely listen to music while training but I often think about music I think would be good to put with a video.  I think they would be quite similar.  I was really impressed with the Australian video featured on the main APK page a while back that was put to a song by Bonobo.  Since then, quieter, "flowier" music has really appealed to me.

Lol, that WOULD be pretty awesome...

I listen to a lot of very random music. Some examples:

Addison Road, Apocalyptica (a LOT of this, b/c I'm a cello dork), loads of stuff by the Beatles, many many songs from musicals/tv shows/movie soundtracks, Foo Fighters, Green Day, Skillet, The Afters, Alison Krauss, Carl Orff, Dixie Chicks, Evanescence, Godsmack, Johnny Cash, Josh Turner, assorted techno, Fireflight, Nirvana, 3 Doors Down, Enya, Metallica, Moby, Yo-Yo Ma, Building 429, Superchick...
Just take the next step.A day without a challenge is a wasted day.
