DC Metro Parkour is back
« on: July 31, 2008, 06:06:16 AM »
Hey everyone,

I have been working on a new incarnation of the DC Metro Parkour website, to help connecting our local community, organizing events, pointing to important resources like hot spots and tutorials and reaching out to the larger public and potential new traceurs. The site is a google wiki (because that's easy to manage), and open to all.
Check it out!

Awesome.  It'd be better with a forum, though, so as to better serve the community's needs.

That's why I linked it to the very active Mid-Atlantic APK forum :D
No use having two forums doing the exact same thing!

..No, I think that was the exact same problem with the last DCMPK site.  No forum.. no reason to go there.. ultimately leading to a lack of sense of community.  The Mid-atlantic forum si great and useful and all, but it was supposed to be temporary.  It honestly feels like we don't have a home right now, and has for the past several years.

Animus, what I meant is that the forum of the new dcpk website IS the Mid-Atlantic Forum here. So you can go to the website to check on news, hotspots, pictures, ... on your way to the one forum everyone already knows and uses (and you don't have to scroll through the APK forum listings, so it's faster ;). Creating a new, empty forum at this point is rather pointless, as everybody would keep going to this one anyway.

I think linking to this forum is fine. One less place to register and check. The site can be used to keep people notified of events/jams, etc. We can keep a jam schedule there, and it'd be easy for everyone to find/check/add to quickly.

Hey cool!  Thanks Pilou!  Both the Calendar and the Weather Forecast are VERY nice touches...  Can't wait for the calendar to be filled up!  :)

This is great.  I wish all the DC sites out there has a link to this forum.  For the first 2 months, I thought the parkour scene in DC is really inactive since no site has any updates on jams and trainings.  For those who are new to the DC parkour scene like I was, there is no way that one would think of Mid-Atlantic as the forum to look for.  So this is great to serve as another point of reference.

Thanks for the praises, guys!  ;D

And remember that once you register as a member, you can add your own news, hot spots, jam announcements, background info, etc. without needing my help. You can also ask me to put stuff up there for you if you don't want to deal with the wiki. I'll make sure everything stays parkour-relevant, but feel free to contribute, this is your website!

I should have another hotspot review complete with pictures done in about another month or so, should I just send it to you? ( not sure how to edit things)

great!!
if you have a Otakon Jam report to share, that would be awesome too ;D

you should be able to edit the site directly, but I'd be happy to do it for you if you prefer.
thanks for all the hotspots!

Hey just a heads up on the DC Metro wiki: once you're a member there, you can get automatic updates whenever there is new jam announcements, news, or pretty much anything new ;D

Makes it worth registering, so you stay in the loop without having to check out the website!

If you log in, you can follow changes to a given page of the wiki :)
Being away in France right now, I'm not sure there'll be much updates from me
in the next few days though :P

Quick update: I rebuilt the site so everything cool (forum posts, map, shirts) is on the front page, as well as some useful links, so it's "efficace".
Hope you guys enjoy!

I didn't even know there was a dc metro wiki to go to...sadly, I don't dig around the site that much, so that probably explains why, haha.

Really need to get around to that...
