Is it just me, or is the media trying to make bad guys out of us? What's up with that?
Somehow just saying you're stupid doesn't seem like it would work.

Also the game (Mirror's Edge) does seem to capture the philosophy of efficient movement quite well
when you play it you're often presented with branching paths and it's your challenge to choose them efficently while maintaining steady flow.

Infamous: A Traceur is given superpowers and is made an electricity wielding bad guy who is given the power to "accidentally" blow up everything in his path.
Who told you that's what the game is about?
The game allows you to choose wether or not you're a villian or hero
Said explosion is what gave the character his powers
He was not a traceur he was an urban explorer (more akin to rockclimbing than parkour) and that was only decided because they didn't want to give the player any powers outside the electricity-based ones but still wanted a logical reason for him to be able to get up onto rooftops and explore the city vertically as well as horizontally.

Just beat the game... entirely too short but very fun over all. Graphics are stunning, especially in the CGI cut scenes (not the cartoon ones). The attention to detail in the environment is great too.

Cons about the game would be that it is sometimes hard to do simple things like grab on a pole or ladder. Also, its ironic that the game revolves around the death of this guy Pope and then you end up having to kill a bunch of other people  ???.

Wish I had only rented it because it takes about 5 or 6 hours of game play to beat on normal. In this day and age that's kind of pathetic for any video game.

I've played the demo and currently waiting for the PC ver. to be released and IMO its a great game and the controls feel extremely smooth. It is indeed a parkour inspired game and can be used to promote parkour as well. Sadly this game was one of the big reasons why I got interested in parkour  :P

I have a few points to make.

1. I still think they are using Parkour and Freerunning as a gimic to promote thier game. Gimmick?  if it is, it's working for me

2. Yes, I know that Parlour is not a collection of moves. But every platformer that has ever been made has been about jumping, running, and whatever else you need to do, to get from point A to point B, often ASAP. Meaning that every platformer, could be classified as having Parkour/Freerunning in them, but don't. Why would they say that Mirrors Edge is based off of Parkour when it is just a 3-D platformer, that will probably be like every other 3-D platformer, except with shinier graphics, the loss of moving platforms (early 3-D days), and guns.
Can you show me other first person style games like this?

3. People know not to try things they see in video games because there is a very good chance that it was exaggerated. However, if people think that there are people that actually do this stuff, then they might get it in their heads to jump of a building. Then again, most people would be smart enough to research the topic first, so who knows, I may just be rambling about nothing on this point, and I actually hope I am. I think you are

4. Lastly since the game is inspired by Parkour, it may give people misconceptions about just what it is that we do. maybe... or they'll just have fun playing the game then eventually research exactly what we do and possibly stumble upon these forums...

Oh, and X-Play frequently mentions, when they are talking about the game at all, that the game is a Freerunning sim. Also one of the games developers called it a Freerunning sim during G4's E3 '08 live coverage.
what're you going to do? Write a nasty letter to them explaining the differences? who cares
thats just a generalised steryotype, im going on to do games design and games developers arnt like that, maybe its the fualt of people who practice parkour and cant spend five minutes explaining the true meaning of parkour and they just tell people its getting from a 2 b as eficiantly as possible then you moan that people like developers actually use that info and put it in their games and then cite their sources.
