Your body is capable of many many things, and a lot of times you need to use your better judgement on things and hold off for a bit until you are stronger. There is nothing wrong with exceeding your current level a bit every now and again, but it should be a small progression and not something as drastic as going to 10-15 foot drops. Just because you can do something doesn't mean you should though. I understand where you are coming from though, just wanting to know what your body can do and all that but just be careful and don't make a habit of high impact stuff like that. Injuries are all too common with people nowadays because they rush things.

train safe, best of luck ;)

Got the point yet? Or shall we bring in the other half of the traceur community to convince you not to do that again?

What is the point of making a thread and asking for advice if you aren't going to listen to anything said? 5 months is nothing. Maybe getting hurt is the only way to get something through one's head.

After three years, I've never taken a drop more than eight feet.. and anything higher than five is extremely rare.  I know I can take fifteen if I REALLY needed to and my life or someone else's depended on it.  Know how?  Because I've trained at ground level for it, and I've conditioned.  that's your safety net.  That's your foundation.

You're smart to not to do it again.  But you shouldn't have done it in the first place.

Now i don't want to lean towards one side or the other, don't do the drop or go ahead and do it. Parkour is about mastering movement in general. Someday you may need to jump off something this high and land safely. Or maybe not. If you believe you need to practice drops then go ahead. But this is very dangerous and you should make sure you can safely land. Just do some warm-ups and make sure you feel confident.

Good luck training and hope whatever you choose to do works out!

trigga, you're absolutely right that some day, you might need to drop from a massive height.  Training ground level and conditioning prepares you for that much more than taking a drop of the same height would.

Ok I've been training that long...I've idiotcly taken 3 6 foot jumps off of a shed, and my knees started to hurt. There fine now, because I've done conditioning, ect.

They will hurt.  Each time you take that impact, your joints are grinding together.  You might just have thick connective tissue, but it's wearing down each time.

...It's really not.  A three foot drop generates 600lbs of force onto the legs with perfect landing, and over double that with sloppy technique.  Performed poorly, that goes straight into your knees.  And I have to ask, anyhow, can you squat 600lbs?  Sorry, but I wouldn't recommend anything higher than waist height for the first two years of training.

It does get tiring.. undoing the damage that Youtube has done.. where kids think that big drops are cool, and that it's something to brag about.. when all the more experienced traceurs out there just look at it, shake our heads in shame, and feel sorry for the kid who's going to walk with a cane at 35, and a wheelchair at 50.

Animus does not need to chill out, you need to stop jumping off high sh*t.
Just stop and think for half a second.
600 pounds.....ya thats just three feet.
I'm no mathematician but ten feet must be cazy poundage.
Animus is the man I think he's being pretty polite about it.
What if you fail?
I won't.

Thanks.

Honestly, this is one of the few things that I believe wholeheartedly we should have zero tolerance for.
